We must strengthen ourselves, and gird up our loins with new resolution; we must counsel each other; and, determined to sustain each other in the support of the Constitution, prepare to meet manfully … whatever of difficulty, or of danger … or of sacrifice, the Providence of God may call upon us to meet.

“Are we of this generation so derelict, have we so little of the blood of our revolutionary fathers coursing through our veins, that we cannot preserve, what they achieved?” he asked. “The world will cry out ‘shame’ upon us, if we show ourselves unworthy, to be the descendants of those great and illustrious men, who fought for their liberty, and secured it to their posterity, by the Constitution of the United States. … We have a great and wise Constitution. We have grown, flourished, and prospered under it, with a degree of rapidity, unequaled in the history of the world. Founded on the basis of equal civil rights, its provisions secure perfect equality and freedom; those who live under it are equal, and enjoy the same privileges.”

Daniel Webster added: “The Constitution has enemies, secret and professed. … They have hot heads and cold hearts. They are rash, reckless, and fierce for change, and with no affection for the existing institutions of their country. … Other enemies there are, more cool, and with more calculation. These have a deeper and more fixed and dangerous purpose. … There are those in the country, who profess, in their own words, even to hate the Constitution.

“Friends of the Constitution must rally and unite … act, with immovable firmness, like a band of brothers, with moderation and conciliation … looking only to the great object set before them, the preservation of the Constitution, bequeathed to them by their ancestors. They must gird up their loins for the work. It is a duty which they owe to these ancestors, and to the generations which are to succeed them.”

Daniel Webster concluded: “Gentlemen, I give my confidence, my countenance, my heart and hand, my entire co-operation to all good men … who are willing to stand by the Constitution. … I hardly know … the manner of our political death. … We shall die no lingering death. … An earthquake would shake the foundations of the globe, pull down the pillars of heaven, and bury us at once in endless darkness. Such may be the fate of this country and its institutions. May I never live, to see that day! The U.S. response to North Korea’s nuclear threats has been characterized by firm rhetoric and minimalist measures, in contrast to stronger punitive measures imposed on Iran. Yet in terms of real capabilities, North Korea poses a greater nuclear threat to the U.S. and its allies than Iran. Furthermore, North Korea’s economic and political isolation could make its regime more vulnerable to coercive financial pressure, provided that the Chinese leadership is persuaded that continuing to shelter its recalcitrant ally will only increase the potential for a crisis on the Korean Peninsula. The Obama Administration should overcome its reluctance to impose more extensive punitive measures against Pyongyang and the foreign entities that assist its nuclear and missile programs.

Responding to North Korea’s third nuclear test in 2013, President Barack Obama declared that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program was a “threat to the U.S. national security and to international peace and security.”[1] The U.N. Security Council similarly warned that North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats posed “a clear threat to international peace and security.”[2] In 2009, Obama had vowed that North Korean “belligerent, provocative behavior that threatens neighbors will be met with significant, serious enforcement of sanctions.”[3]

Yet despite these unambiguous warnings and unequivocal vows of resolute response, the United States continues to implement timid policies that only incrementally increase punishments on Pyongyang for its repeated defiance of the international community. The United States still pulls its punches when targeting financial measures against North Korea and its supporting entities, and the U.S. has shied away from effective unilateral action since 2006. By contrast, the U.S. has led the charge for far more pervasive and compelling measures against Iran, despite Tehran’s greater diplomatic and economic interaction with the rest of the world.

How many hours do people need to work to earn enough money to buy a Big Mac in Korea? According to the Big Mac minimum wage index by U.S. market researcher ConvergEx Group, the answer is now 42 minutes or 0.7 hours, CNBC reported on Tuesday.
Korea's minimum wage is W4,860 (US$1=W1,118) at present.
The index is modified based on the Big Mac Index created by Britain's the Economist in 1986 as "a lighthearted guide to whether currencies are at their 'correct' level." By comparing how many hours it takes to earn enough to buy a Big Mac at minimum wage in over 120 countries, the U.S. index indicates how a country's minimum wage stacks up internationally.
Australia tops the scale at 18 minutes, based on a minimum wage of US$16.88 per hour. At the other end of the spectrum is Sierra Leone, where it takes workers a whopping 136 hours to afford the same burger due to the Western African nation's abysmally low minimum wage of 3 cents per hour.
Workers in Japan and Hong Kong have to put in just 0.5 hours for the same McLovin' experience, while their counterparts in China would need 3.1 hours, or a more grueling 5.8 hours in India.
In the U.S. it would take 0.6 hours of work to afford a Big Mac.

Koreans still work almost the longest hours in the world, according to the latest statistics.
Per-capita annual labor data compiled by the OECD shows Koreans working 2,163 hours a year, second only to Mexico's 2,237 hours.
The thrifty Dutch had the shortest annual work hours at 1,380, followed by Germany's efficient 1,388 hours, Japan's 1,735 and the U.S.' 1,788 hours.
But Koreans are not particularly productive in all the time they spend at work, suggesting that more leisure might improve their focus.
Experts have long been saying that Korean businesses need to change both their corporate culture and wage system. The focus of performance evaluations must shift from hours logged at the office to tasks accomplished. Simply clocking in at 8 a.m. and working until 10 p.m. without focusing on the quality of work does not seem to improve productivity.

This week we leave the Culture Wars behind and return to some basic apologetics…well, some interesting information about the Scriptures that informs our apologetics.

I once had a discussion with a person who insisted that Our Divine Lord spoke only Hebrew.  The conversation had begun centered around the word “rock” in St Matthew’s Gospel (Mt 16:18), but quickly devolved into a debate about ancient languages.  My friend held that the word “rock” couldn’t possibly refer to St. Peter because the Gospel was written in Greek, and the Greek words used in that passage are “petros” and “petra,” which mean “rock” and “small rock,” respectively.  I pointed out that Jesus didn’t speak Greek, He spoke Aramaic, and the Aramaic word for rock is “kepha,” which means “big rock” or “boulder.”

My friend was thunderstruck, he had never considered that a Jew in that time would speak any other language but Hebrew.

By the time Christ arrived on the scene, the Jewish people had been through a series of calamities that fundamentally altered their society.  The Jewish state, Judah, was a rump of Israel’s former glory under King David, having been invaded and imprisoned a number of times by the Persians, the Greeks, the Assyrians, and the Romans.  During the Babylonian Exile and the subsequent occupation by the Assyrians (700-330 BC), the Imperial Language of Aramaic became the common language of the Jews.  In fact, the books of Ezra and Daniel were written in Aramaic.  Similar to the way that the Church’s official language is Latin even today, the Rabbis and Temple officials maintained the Hebrew language of worship and the Scriptures, but the people spoke Aramaic in their daily lives.

The linguistic patchwork of first century Judea was complicated by two more civilizations…Greek and Roman.  Greek was the common language used by the Roman elites in the conduct of business in the Empire.  Latin, of course, was the official language of the Empire spoken by Roman officials and military forces, as well as the Roman citizens.

History aside, how do we know from the Scriptures that Christ spoke Aramaic?  Simple.  In several places He is quoted speaking Aramaic.  In St. Matthew’s and St. Mark’s Gospels, some of Christ’s words are rendered in the language the people spoke.  “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” (Mt 27:46, Mk 15:34), “Talitha cuom”  (Mk 8:41), and “Ephphatha” (Mk 7:34) are all Aramaic phrases.  Even the word “Abba” which Christ uses often to refer to the Father is the Aramaic word roughly translated as “Daddy.”  Incidentally, the Arabic word “Abu” has the same meaning… so “Abu Sulieman” means “Father of Solomon.”

Why is all this language study important to defense of the Faith?  Just this: properly translating the Scriptures leads to proper interpretations.  For example, when the “brothers of Jesus” are referred to in Scripture, it’s important to know that they are cousins, not children of Mary.  We know this because Aramaic has no word for “cousin” and Semitic cultures usually consider all male relatives as “brother” or “uncle.”  In fact, not to refer to a male relative as “brother” or “father” or “uncle” is a way of distancing oneself from them.  If we try to go with the English word, or even the Greek one, then we run the risk of drawing the wrong conclusion from the word “brother” or “rock,” and that weakens our personal understanding of the faith.

The Church recognizes the need for linguistic variety in her worship.  It’s also a reason the Latin Rite uses Aramaic (Amen), Greek (Kyrie), Latin (Sanctus, Gloria, Angus Dei), and the vernacular (mostly English or Spanish in the USA) during Holy Mass.  Words have power and real meaning…how else could we believe what someone tells us if words do not mean real ideas?

So the language Jesus Christ spoke on earth is important, both for our heads and our hearts.  If words were not important, then the Father wouldn’t have spoken the Eternal Word.  We are thankful He did.

Bob Iger’s package consists of a $2.5 million salary, $8.9 million in stock awards, $8.3 million in option awards, $22.8 million in non equity incentives, $2.8 million change in pension value, and $1.1 million in other compensation. That last category includes $391,411 for personal air travel and $614,582 for security.

Disney shares appreciated 38% in the fiscal year that ended in September vs 20% for the benchmark Standard & Poors’ 500.

The CEO’s take could increase as a result of the contract he signed in October extending his term to mid-2018. To “provide an incentive for Mr. Iger to agree to a contract extension and to stay” through the additional years, he gained an opportunity to see a performance-based award tied to growth in Disney’s operating income. “The Board believes the growth in operating income represented by the targeted level will benefit shareholders through meaningful growth in shareholder value.”

Taipei, Jan. 15 (CNA) Taiwan's Legislative Yuan plans to issue a statement Friday on China's new flight routes that have been termed "unacceptable" by the executive branch of the government, according to Legislature Speaker Wang Jin-pyng on Thursday.

China announced four new flight routes just west of the center line of the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and China Jan. 12, angering Taiwan.

At the Legislature, main opposition Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers demanded that the government lodge a strong protest and demand that China withdraw its decision to show Taiwan's will to defend its national interests.

The minor opposition Taiwan Solidarity Union's legislative caucus urged the government to stop all on-going negotiations with China until Beijing rescinds its decision.

Lawmaker Fai Hrong-tai, who is also acting head of the Central Policy Committee of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), said the Legislature needs to take a position on this matter as it concerns both national sovereignty and air travel safety. "The KMT caucus will not propose a draft statement, which should be done by the Legislature's Organic Laws and Statutes Bureau," he said.

If there is a consensus among lawmakers on the wording of the statement, then there should not be any problem in passing it, Fai added.

A cross-party consultation has already reached a consensus on issuing a statement Friday, according to Wang, the speaker.

The Mainland Affairs Council has protested the "unilateral" announcement that will "impact both regional air safety and cross-Taiwan Strait relations."

Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration has expressed strong opposition, citing flight safety concerns and calling it "unacceptable" because China had not informed Taiwan before it announced the routes.

The administration said the new north-south route M503 is too close to the Taipei Flight Information Region, a key air transport hub in the West Pacific, and the three new east-west routes W121, W122 and W123 that connect with M503 could affect flights between Taiwan and the outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu.

BRITAINS EXPLORATION OF MARS WAS NOT A FAILURE AFTER ALL AS BEAGLE 2 LANDED AND DEPLOYED ON THE SURFACE OF MARS BUT MAY HAVE FAILED TO DEPLOY ITS SOLAR PANEL TO START COMMUNICATION BACK TO EARTH

 

So near and yet so far. New images show that the UK’s Beagle 2 successfully landed on the surface of Mars in 2003 but failed to fully deploy its solar panels. Without these, it could not communicate with Earth and scientists lost contact.

The discovery images come from the HiRISE camera on Nasa’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. They show a bright shape that looks like the lander with some of its solar panels deployed.

The pictures are not yet sharp enough to tell exactly how many of Beagle 2’s four panels unfolded. More images are currently being planned to help work out what happened. The final panel would have uncovered the radio antenna, allowing the spacecraft to make contact.

Stone-throwing demonstrators set fire to two churches in Niger's capital Niamey on Saturday, in the latest protest in France's former African colonies at French newspaper Charlie Hebdo's cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.

A day after five people were killed in Niger in protests over the cartoons, protesters in Niamey attacked a police station and burned at least two police cars near the main mosque after authorities banned a meeting called by local Muslim leaders. Police responded with tear gas.

"They offended our Prophet Mohammed. That's what we didn't like," said Amadou Abdoul Ouahab, who took part in the demonstration. "This is the reason why we have asked Muslims to come, so that we can explain this to them, but the state refused. That's why we're angry today."

Demonstrations were also reported in regional towns, including Maradi, 375 miles east of Niamey, where two churches were burned. Another church and a residence of the foreign minister were burned in the eastern town of Goure.

Four Muslim preachers who had convened the meeting in Niamey were arrested, police sources said. Protesters burned the French flag and set up roadblocks on streets in the town centre but no casualties were reported on Saturday.

The Muslim call to prayer will not ring out from Duke University’s chapel tower after all.
The university announced that it has reconsidered its decision to allow the call for prayer from the iconic tower on Fridays.

The reversal came a day after evangelist Franklin Graham posted a scathing criticism on Facebook asking donors not to give to Duke until the policy was changed.
The university made no mention of the donations in their release but said that a move intended to bring unity clearly wasn’t.

The university said about 700 students claim Muslim affiliation and that they have been meeting in the chapel basement for many years.
The decision to not have a call for prayer brought praise from Rev. Graham who told Eyewitness News on Thursday that the chapel was built by donations from Christians when the university was a Methodist college and should continue to be used for Christian worship.
Graham also said there are millions of peaceful Muslims, but stood by his harsh words for Islam, warning that it is at war with Christianity.
“That violence is there and it's coming and it's going to come to this country. It has nothing to do with what I say. I'm just trying to warn this country about what's coming. Islam is a violent religion.”

The US Postal Service plans to sell 56 buildings — so it can lease space more expensively — and the real estate company of the California senator’s husband, Richard Blum, is set to pocket about $1 billion in commissions.

Blum’s company, CBRE, was selected in March 2011 as the sole real estate agent on sales expected to fetch $19 billion. Most voters didn’t notice that Blum is a member of CBRE’s board and served as chairman from 2001 to 2014.

This feat of federal spousal support was ignored by the media after Feinstein’s office said the senator, whose wealth is pegged at $70 million, had nothing to do with the USPS decisions.

Earlier this week, Alex recanted his testimony about the afterlife. In an open letter to Christian bookstores posted on the Pulpit and Pen Web site, Alex states flatly: “I did not die. I did not go to Heaven.”

Referring to the injuries that continue to make it difficult for him to express himself, Alex writes, “Please forgive the brevity, but because of my limitations I have to keep this short…. I said I went to heaven because I thought it would get me attention. When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough. The Bible is the only source of truth. Anything written by man cannot be infallible.”

Thursday evening, Todd Starowitz, public relations director of Tyndale House, told The Washington Post: “Tyndale has decided to take the book and related ancillary products out of print.”

Friday, Tyndale released this statement: “We are saddened to learn that Alex Malarkey, co-author of ‘The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven,’ is now saying that he made up the story of dying and going to heaven. Given this information, we are taking the book out of print.”

But there is considerable disagreement about when Alex first recanted his testimony and objected to the book, which has reportedly sold more than 1 million copies.

President Barack Obama will ask Congress for as much as $68 billion more than current budget limits in fiscal 2016, according to two people familiar with the administration’s proposal.

The request sets up a fight with the Republican-led House and Senate over whether to reverse part of the spending limits that the U.S. Congress and the White House agreed to in fiscal deals earlier this decade.

The new spending would mean as much as $34 billion each for the national security and domestic sides of what will be a budget of almost $4 trillion. It will be detailed in the budget proposal Obama will send to Congress on Feb. 2.

That amounts to an almost 7 percent increase over discretionary-spending levels prescribed by automatic cuts known as sequestration voted into law in 2011, according to the people, who asked for anonymity because the budget plan hasn’t been released.

It’s a bold move at a time when many Republicans in Congress say they are eager to make deeper cuts in spending and are invigorated by a November election in which they expanded their House majority and gained control of the Senate.

“I think there might some bipartisan opposition” to the new spending, said Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican. Senate and House Republicans are meeting at a policy retreat today in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Now, a century after the first cases began to appear, scientists believe they have for the first time identified the signature brain injury that could explain why some soldiers go on to have their lives blighted by the condition.

After conducting autopsies on US combat veterans who survived improvised explosive device (IED) blasts in Iraq and Afghanistan but later died of other causes, researchers in the US found the ex-soldiers had a unique type of brain injury.  

Described as a ‘distinctive honeycomb pattern of broken and swollen nerve fibres’, the injuries were not the same as those found in car crash and drug overdose victims, or sufferers of punch-drunk syndrome, which is caused by repeated blows to the head. 

The lesions occurred in critical regions of the IED survivors’ brains, including in the frontal lobes, which control decision making and reasoning, lead the scientists to conclude that hidden brain injuries may play a role in the social and psychological problems faced by some combat veterans.

North Korea this week denied reports that it was trying to open a restaurant in Scotland.
The North recently opened one of its "Pyongyang" restaurants ― which are sources of hard currency for the regime ― in Amsterdam. Reports quoted North Korea experts as saying that the regime may be inclined to open one in Scotland, after Pyongyang expressed support for Scottish independence referendum.
"North Koreans love whisky," Michael Madden, the editor of the North Korean Leadership Watch blog, was quoted as saying.
"Tourists in North Korea are told to tip people in Scotch instead of the currency," he said, adding that the Scottish referendum catapulted Scotland into the thoughts of North Korean elites.
However, an official from the North Korean embassy to the United Kingdom told the Independent that reports were "nonsense," declining to comment further.
The restaurant chain has links to Office 39, a shadowy agency in the North that seeks foreign funds for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's slush fund.

“The way to think of it is as a small, economic adjunct to China,” said Smith. With bilateral relations at a low, the North is wooing other countries, including Russia and Japan. Neither seem a realistic alternative, especially given the state of the latter’s economy.

None of this gives one much cause for optimism about the North’s prospects. Yet Frank believes that in the long run the changes the government is introducing may develop a momentum of their own. “They will achieve something and then the whole thing will stagnate, and it will force the leadership to make a decision – and I believe that decision will be genuine, systematic reform. I’m optimistic,” he said.

Lankov and others suggest the government could call a halt to changes at any time as it has in the past. But Frank argues the disastrous attempt at curbing markets through currency reform in 2009 has shown the cost of turning back from change.

“They are riding the tiger. Of course they are afraid of being eaten by it. But at least they are trying,” he said.

Lithuania is publishing a manual to advise its citizens on how to survive a war on its soil as concerns grow that Russia's intervention in Ukraine heralds increased assertiveness in its tiny Baltic neighbors.

"Keep a sound mind, don't panic and don't lose clear thinking," the manual explains. "Gunshots just outside your window are not the end of the world."

The manual, which the Defence Ministry will send to libraries next week and also distribute at army events, says Lithuanians should resist foreign occupation with demonstrations and strikes, "or at least doing your job worse than usual".

In the event of invasion, the manual says Lithuanians should organize themselves through Twitter and Facebook and attempt cyber attacks against the enemy.

Lithuania spent much of the last century incorporated in Soviet Union, along with Latvia and Estonia, and upon independence in 1991 quickly sought to join the Western NATO alliance and the European Union.

It is increasingly worried about Russia, not least because of a military drill in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad last month that featured 9,000 soldiers and more than 55 naval vessels.

The uproar over whether President Obama or another top administration official should have attended the massive unity rally in Paris has obscured an important point about the White House's reaction to the latest terror attacks in Europe. The administration no-shows were not a failure of optics, or a diplomatic misstep, but were instead the logical result of the president's years-long effort to downgrade the threat of terrorism and move on to other things.

"The analogy we use around [the White House] sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a JV team puts on Lakers uniforms, that doesn't make them Kobe Bryant," Obama told the New Yorker magazine in a January 2014 interview. A HIGH FIBER DIET CAN GIVE YOU A LONGER LIFE

People who ate the most fiber were less likely to die of any cause during a recent study of nearly one million people.

The finding might be explained by fiber’s potential to lower the risk of chronic diseases including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several types of cancer, researchers say.

Individuals should be encouraged to increase their dietary fiber intake "to potentially decrease the risk of premature death,” Yang Yang, of the Shanghai Cancer Institute in China, and colleagues write in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

They pooled data from 17 previous studies that tracked 982,411 men and women, mostly in Europe and the U.S., and recorded about 67,000 deaths.

Yang’s team divided participants into five groups based on their daily fiber intake. Those in the top fifth, who ate the greatest amount of fiber daily, were 16 percent less likely to die than those in the bottom fifth, who consumed the least amount of fiber.

In addition, eight studies showed a 10 percent drop in risk for any cause of death with each 10-gram per day increase in fiber intake.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends that adults consume 14 grams of fiber in every 1,000 calories they take in, the authors point out. That translates to approximately 25 grams a day for women and 38 grams daily for men.

“On average, intakes of dietary fiber in the U.S. and other economically developed countries are much lower than recommended goals – in the U.S., about half of what is advised,” said Victoria Burley, a nutrition researcher at the University of Leeds in the UK, who was not involved in the study.

These study results are "very much in line with earlier published meta-analyses of the relationship between dietary fiber and risk of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, and cancers,” Burley told Reuters Health in an email.

THE 52 OF THE 100 BIGGEST CAMPAIGN DONORS WERE FOR DEMOCRATS $174 MILLION VERSUS REPUBLICANS $140 MILLION DURING THE 2014 ELECTION

Democrats spent much of the 2014 campaign castigating Republican big money, but, it turns out, their side actually finished ahead among the biggest donors of 2014 – at least among those whose contributions were disclosed.

The 100 biggest donors of 2014 gave nearly $174 million to Democrats, compared to more than $140 million to Republicans, according to a POLITICO analysis of reports filed with the Federal Election Commission and Internal Revenue Service.

GOOGLE HOLDS THE INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE WITH 75.2% ONLINE SEARCH, FOLLOWED BY BING WITH 12.5% AND YAHOO WITH 10.4%

Google saw its share of the US Internet search market slip to its lowest ever mark, while Yahoo notched its highest share in five years, an independent analytics firm said on Thursday.

In December, Google handled 75.2 per cent of US online search referrals, down from 79.3 per cent a year earlier. That score is its lowest since 2008, when StatCounter started tracking the data.

Google nevertheless remains the US leader in the search market by a wide margin, ahead of Microsoft's Bing at 12.5 per cent and Yahoo at 10.4 per cent - its highest score since 2009.

Yahoo, whose chief Marissa Mayer has repeatedly stressed that the company remains devoted to the search market that it pioneered but which Google grew to dominate, only had 7.4 per cent of the search market a year before.

China deleted more than three million pieces of pornographic content from the internet in 2014, state media reported Saturday (Jan 10), as part of a campaign to cleanse the country's online sphere.

Zhou Huilin, a vice director of the National Anti-Pornography and Anti-Illegal Publications Office, told the official Xinhua news agency his office had been "remarkably effective" last year.

China has been cracking down on internet porn for a decade and has been stepping up its oversight of the web in recent months. In 2006, a 28-year-old man who ran the country's most popular pornographic website community, with up to 600,000 members, was sentenced to life in prison.

More than 10,000 websites or pages that contained what was described as illegal or harmful information were also shut down by authorities, Xinhua reported, without providing details. They also confiscated more than 16 million illegal publications - including 12 million pirated ones - and dealt with 212 cases that involved fake journalists or media organisations, Xinhua quoted Zhou as saying.

China has more web users than any other country in the world, with a government agency last year putting the figure at 632 million. The country is home to a huge e-commerce market and the internet has been used to spotlight government abuses, presenting a challenge to the ruling Communist Party.

As the new GOP Congress scrambles to pass legislation approving the Keystone XL pipeline, President Obama has increasingly signaled a negative view of the controversial project.
Recent weeks have seen some of the most negative comments from Obama on Keystone — not just about supporters’ attempts to bypass him, but on the merits of pipeline itself.
It’s a shift for Obama, away from more neutral previous statements that have for years left his leanings unknown. And it’s giving environmentalists more hope than ever that Obama will reject the pipeline.
One of the president’s most forceful statements about the pipeline came the week before Christmas, when he declared that Keystone would provide little, if any, benefit to the United States.
“It’s very good for Canadian oil companies, and it’s good for the Canadian oil industry but it’s not going to be a huge benefit to U.S. consumers, it’s not even going to be a nominal benefit to U.S. consumers,” he told reporters.
About a month earlier, Obama said during a trip to Asia that Keystone “is providing the ability of Canada to pump their oil, send it through our land down to the gulf, where it will be sold to everyone else. It doesn’t have an impact on U.S. gas prices.”
The president has only reached this opinion about the Canada-to-Texas pipeline after a years-long roller coast of statements and indications from him and his administration.

Attorney General Eric Holder said the United States is at war with terrorists who pervert the Muslim faith in order to justify violence.

Asked on ABC's "This Week" if the U.S. is at war with "radical Islam," Holder said the country is at war "with those who would commit terrorist attacks and who would corrupt the Islamic faith … to try to justify their terrorist actions."

"That's who we are at war with," Holder said. "We are determined to take the fight to them to prevent them from engaging in these kinds of activities."

The exchange with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos came in response to a comment from French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who said Saturday that his country is at war with radical Islam.

Holder gave the interview from Paris, where he is marching alongside other world leaders in solidarity with the French. Officials are also set to hold high-level intelligence talks.

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Holder said Sunday that the United States is at risk of facing attacks similar to the ones that struck Paris last week, killing 17 people.
