HEROES 영웅 FROM SOUTH KOREA’S SEWOL MARITIME DISASTER AND THEIR STORIES

Park Ji-young, a 22-year-old crewmember of the Sewol, was among them. She lost her life while struggling to ensure that all passengers on the third and fourth floors of the vessel wore life jackets and found their way out.
“I repeatedly asked her why she did not first wear a life jacket. Park just said that she would get out of the ship after making sure that all passengers were out. She said the crew including her would be the last (to escape),” a survivor told media.
“Park pushed shocked passengers toward the exit even when the water was up to her chest.”

Jeong Cha-woong, a 17-year-old student, is also being hailed as a hero. He died after giving his own life vest to his drowning friend and hurling himself into the waters to rescue others.

Kim Hong-gyeong, a 59-year-old survivor, also risked his life to save others.
Kim made a 10-meter-long rope with curtains from the ship and used it to drag up several passengers. Although the water was above his knees, he continued his rescue efforts and saved the lives of some 20 people. He, then, boarded a fishing boat that volunteered in the rescue operations.

Park Young-sup, a 56-year-old fisherman with a 9.77-ton boat, also joined the rescue efforts.
On his way home aboard his ship Wednesday, he received a signal for a rescue request from the local maritime communication authorities and piloted his ship to the scene. Along with other rescue staff, he pulled 27 survivors drifting at sea onto his ship and brought them to safer areas.
“I know what kinds of fears they were having as I myself experienced similar situations,” he told media. “You might feel like you’re on the verge of death. That’s why I hurried all the way to the scene to help save the survivors.” Hundreds of military, police and civilian personnel were mobilized for the frantic rescue efforts. Many fishers in the nearby waters also volunteered in the search for survivors. Underwater rescue operations were impeded by fast tidal currents and poor visibility.

WHEN THE LIBERAL POLICY IS ANTI NATURAL EARTH RESOURCES FROM OIL, COAL, OR GAS, THE BHO ADMINISTRATION DOES NOT PUT STAKE IN EXPORTING THE NEW FOUND US ENERGY FROM SHALE EXPLORATION FOR EXPORTING TO EUROPE INSTEAD PUTS THE BHO CHIPS ON A GAMBLING SCHEME FOR SOLAR PANEL POWER–WHICH SHOWS HAVE LED TO UNEMPLOYMENT–BUT SHOULD BE FOR GREATER EMPLOYMENT THROUGH NATURAL RESOURCES BY EXPORTING TO OFFSET THE GROWING RUSSIAN CONTROL OF EUROPE BY A STRANGLE HOLD THROUGH GAS ENERGY–THE SAME LEFTIST LIBERAL POLICIES THAT HAVE STYMIED THE XL PIPELINE THAT WOULD CREATE JOBS–THE SAME DEMOCRATS WHO SEEMS NOT TO WANT JOBS BUT MORE UNEMPLOYMENT BY SUPPORTING SEQUESTRATION

…….events in the Crimea have now added another question: why shouldn’t America use its new-found energy reserves as a weapon? It would be easy enough to do. If Barack Obama were to export more of this gas, he could send world prices to the floor – hurting not just the Kremlin, but the oligarchs who support Putin. Of all the weapons in America’s arsenal, its new energy power is perhaps what the Kremlin fears most.

Russia is, in effect, a giant gas company with a military attached to it. Moscow’s interests are synonymous with that of its state-owned gas concerns, which explains much of its bizarre foreign policy. Why should Putin have protected Bashar Assad when he was gassing his own people? We were reminded of the answer on Christmas Day, when Russia signed a 25-year deal with the Assad regime, handing the state-controlled energy firm Soyuzneftegaz a chunk of the Levant Basin. In this way, Assad’s Syria has joined Putin’s virtual empire.

This is why hawks in Washington are not content with Obama deploying F-16 fighters to Poland, and are urging him to retaliate with robust pipeline politics. A Texan congressman, Ted Poe, yesterday introduced a Bill that would speed up the delivery of American gas to Ukraine and other threatened regions. John Boehner, the Republican Speaker of the House, is telling Obama his prevaricating over gas export licences has helped Putin “to finance his geopolitical goals”. The fuel hawks are clear: energy has strategic value, and Obama’s failure to use it has emboldened the enemy.

Another weapon the president might deploy is approving the Keystone XL pipeline, which would take oil to coastal refineries, ready for export. Then he could lift the ban on exporting crude oil, which has lingered since the crisis of the Seventies. He could fast-track the 15 gas export terminals still waiting for planning approval, to send supplies to America’s allies. All of these demands have been made, for years, in the name of cheaper energy. The Greens protested, as did those who feared exports would make fuel pricy again. But only now does exporting energy seem like an essential tool of American statecraft – a weapon in a new cold war.

AS NATO BACKED COUNTRIES LIKE UKRAINE BEING THREATENED BY A RUSSIAN TAKE OVER– POLAND GETS A BOOST WITH US GROUND TROOPS IN THE COMING WEEKS AS WELL AS FIELDING F-16 FIGHTER PLANES WEEKS AGO

US TO DEPLOY F16 TO POLAND

Poland and the United States will announce next week the deployment of U.S. ground forces to Poland as part of an expansion of NATO presence in Central and Eastern Europe in response to events in Ukraine. That was the word from Poland’s defense minister, Tomasz Siemoniak, who visited The Post Friday after meeting with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel at the Pentagon on Thursday.

Siemoniak said the decision has been made on a political level and that military planners are working out details. There will also be intensified cooperation in air defense, special forces, cyberdefense and other areas. Poland will play a leading regional role, “under U.S. patronage,” he said.

But the defense minister also said that any immediate NATO response to Russian aggression in Ukraine, while important, matter less than a long-term shift in the defense postures of Europe and America. The United States, having announced a “pivot” to Asia, needs to “re-pivot” to Europe, he said, and European countries that have cut back on defense spending need to reverse the trends.

“The idea until recently was that there were no more threats in Europe and no need for a U.S. presence in Europe any more,” Siemoniak said, speaking through an interpreter. “Events show that what is needed is a re-pivot, and that Europe was safe and secure because America was in Europe.”

How likely is such a reversal on defense spending? Siemoniak said there was widespread support at a recent meeting of European defense ministers. “Now they’ll go back to their presidents, prime ministers and ministers of finance, and this will stop being easy,” he admitted. “But the impetus is very strong.”

The strongest impetus, he said, is not even Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, but President Vladimir Putin’s bald lies about Russian actions there and his exposition of a new doctrine allowing Russia to intervene in any country where Russian-speaking populations are, in Russia’s judgment, under threat. This poses a potential danger to the Baltic nations, which are members of NATO, and even more to Moldova, Belarus and central Asian nations that are not, he said.

THE COLORADO RANCH CRISIS FOR RANCHERS RIGHTS VERSUS THE GOVERNMENT PLOT TO TRADE FEDERAL LAND FOR SOLAR PANELS–AS THE BHO ADMINISTRATION AGENDA TO FURTHER FUND THE SOLAR INDUSTRY THAT HAS GAINED NOTHING MORE THAN BANKRUPTCIES AND LOSS OF JOBS AND LOSS OF INVESTMENT AID MONIES USED TO LOAN RISKY VENTURES NOT BY BUSINESS SENSE BUT BY A LIBERAL LEFTIST AGENDA–THUS THE FREE LOVING RANCHER GETS THE BOOT FROM HARRY REID AND THE POTUS BHO FOR THE SAKE OF SOLAR PANELS ANOTHER FAILED AGENDA FROM THE LEFTIST IN CHARGE

The White House held a “Solar Summit” Thursday, continuing to promote subsidies for solar panels just days after a new nonpartisan government report showed restrictions of drilling on federal lands.

The Energy Department announced another $15 million in “solar market pathways” to fund local governments’ use of solar energy. Further, the administration announced at the summit plans for a “Capital Solar Challenge,” directing federal agencies, military bases and other federally subsidized buildings to use solar power.

Solar power took a severe public relations hit after the politically connected California-based Solyndra solar power maker collapsed after getting $600 million from the Department of Energy. But on Thursday, the White House stood firm.

“As part of the president’s all-of-the-above energy strategy, solar energy is helping families and businesses throughout the U.S. access affordable, clean renewable power,” Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said. “The Energy Department is committed to further driving down the cost of solar energy and supporting innovative community-based programs – creating more jobs, reducing carbon pollution and boosting economic growth.”

But a report by the Congressional Research Service found that “all of the above” might not include a commitment to drilling, despite the administration taking credit for the increased oil and gas production overall despite a big uptick in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, on private lands.

SOUTH KOREA’S REMODELED JET FIGHTER FA-50 DESIGNED BY KOREA AEROSPACE AND LOCKHEED MARTIN GETS AN INTERNATIONAL SALES BOOST–THE US AIR FORCE TO PURCHASE THE FA-50 IN 2017

Its original purpose was to serve as Korea's own light combat aircraft, but it's finding a home in the international market.
The FA-50 is the light attack variant of the the T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic advanced jet trainer operated by the South Korean Air Force.
Co-developed by Korea Aerospace Industries and U.S. defense firm Lockheed Martin, the FA-50 is capable of combat action, with advanced radar and missile capabilities.
The FA-50 was initially designed to replace the nation's aging fighter jets, while the T-50 supersonic trainer jets were aimed for the international market.
However, the T-50's price tag of over 22 million U.S. dollars was a bit too high for many buyers, and it didn't sell as well as anticipated.
But, the remodeled FA-50 has filled its place.
Capable of carrying 45-hundred kilograms of weapons, the jet is in the same class as others made in Sweden, Italy and Russia.
But Korea's FA-50 is becoming more attractive because of its high performance in relation to cost.
Korea Aerospace Industries signed a contract to deliver 12 fighter jets to the Philippines worth of 420 million U.S. dollars in March.
It follows similar deals to Iraq last year and Indonesia in 2011.
Sights have now been set on Peru, Botswana, and the United Arab Emirates, and the U.S., which may be looking to replace its aging Air Force T-38s.
Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin signed a memorandum of understanding on expanding defense cooperation in February of last year.
Industry experts expect a deal on FA-50 exports with the U.S. Air Force some time in 2017.

THE UNSTOPPABLE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH KOREA DEVELOPS SEEDS FOR THE WORLD BUT LOSES RIGHTS TO ITS OWN CREATION–EXAMPLE CHEONGYANG PEPPERS

Many Korean dishes are loaded with chili peppers, also known here as "cheongyang" peppers, but not many know that every time they buy a pepper, Korean consumers are paying royalties overseas.

Its seed was developed by a local company, but it lost its rights when the business crumbled during the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s.
Since then, many local firms have had to give up their seed ownership to multinational companies.

Currently, Korea is paying royalties for about 30 percent of its agricultural products.
Over the last five years, Korea has shelled out nearly 54-million U.S. dollars in royalties, with mushrooms accounting for the most at 19-million dollars, followed by roses at 14-million dollars and kiwi at 8.6-million dollars.
About 70 percent of the global seed market is owned by multinational companies, which puts Korean companies trying to increase their presence in the world market in a tough spot.

"Many multinational companies are dominating the global seed market, using intellectual property rights as a weapon. So, it is hard for mid-sized local companies to compete with them."

Korea is seeking to develop different kinds of plant breeding, while protecting seed rights with a systematic set of patents to prevent them from being sold overseas.
"We plan to support the seed research by developing patents and protecting the intellectual property that could eventually result in more profits for the country."

THE POLLS ARE OUT ON THE PRO ABORTIONIST TEXAS FOR GOVERNOR WENDY DAVIS – HER BREAK OUT SPEECH WAS NEVER REALLY OFFENSIVE TO ABORTED BABIES ACCORDING TO THE LIBERAL MSM

Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis exploded on the national political scene when she staged a filibuster in favor of abortion. Since then, she has become something of an icon to the left regarding the contentious issue.

However, many will surely be surprised to see the results of a new Public Policy Polling survey that indicates Davis has a lower favorability rating than her male opponent in the Texas governor’s race, Greg Abbott.

According to the poll, 35 percent of women surveyed gave Abbott a favorable rating, while 27 percent dished out an unfavorable rating.

In comparison, 46 percent of women gave Davis an unfavorable rating and 32 percent said favorable.

IT HAS BEEN REVEALED THE BHO WHITE HOUSE WAS OFFENDED BY THE CONSERVATIVE DR BEN CARSON FOR THE KEYNOTE SPEECH IN 2013 DURING THE PRAYER BREAKFAST CLUB AND REQUESTED THE GREAT DOCTOR APOLOGIZE–SO IF YOU’RE A CONSERVATIVE IT MEANS ANYTHING YOU SAY AS FREE SPEECH IS AN OFFENSE TO THE LEFTIST LIBERAL IN THE WHITE HOUSE

Conservative sage Dr. Ben Carson is claiming the White House was offended by his now-famous keynote address at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast and asked at the time for an apology call to President Obama -- which he didn’t make.

The anecdote is found in Carson’s upcoming book “One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future.”

Carson, who became a conservative sensation after the address, was highly critical of the direction of the country though he never blamed the president, who was sitting just a few feet away.

“He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson wrote in the book.

“But within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of the program, I received a call from some of the prayer breakfast organizers saying that the White House was upset and requesting that I call the president and apologize for offending him. I said that I did not think that he was offended and that I didn’t think that such a call was warranted.”

The passage was verified Tuesday by publisher Sentinel, a division of Penguin Group (USA).

SAMSUNG THE LARGEST REPUBLIC OF SOUTH KOREA COMPANY GETS 100,000 APPLICANTS IN 2014

On an early Sunday morning, this large group of people is heading toward a local school ground.
They're not adolescents looking for extra credit, they're job applicants to Korea's largest company: Samsung.
Working for the conglomerate is considered a dream job, as it offers stability, benefits and good pay.
So what does it take to get hired?
The first hurdle applicants must clear is the Samsung Aptitude Test.
If they want an interview, they have to pass the standardized test first.
It evaluates a person's abilities in a wide range of subjects including linguistics, math and logic.
There's heated competition among job applicants each and every year, and this year is no exception.
"I could have graduated college late last year but postponed it to study for the Samsung Aptitude Test. I even took classes to get a good score on the test."
Since the beginning of the year, more than 100-thousand people have applied for employment at Samsung, but just around 4-thousand are expected to land a regular paying job.
That means that only one out of 20 people will get in.
"Reflecting this fervor to get a job at Samsung, you can see there's a variety of workbooks on every subject for the Samsung Aptitude Test illustrating just how much influence the conglomerate has on the Korean economy and society."
Samsung Group's total market value was more than 286-billion U.S. dollars in 2012 comprising nearly 26-percent that of all listed companies in Korea.
At the same time, combined operating profits of Samsung and its affiliates were nearly 16-percent of the listed companies in 2012 at around 29-billion U.S. dollars.

THE PRICE OF CRUDE HAS HOVERED OVER $100 A BARREL THIS 2014 AND NOTHING NEWS WORTHY TO REPORT HERE FROM THE MSM AS THE PEOPLE ARE DESENTISIZE TO THE LUKE WARM WATER BEGINNING TO BOIL

PRICE OF CRUDE AT $103 ONCE AGAIN 4/14/2014

WTI crude prices broke $100 per barrel for the first time since December

Last week, WTI crude oil prices finished at $100.30 per barrel, compared to $99.88 per barrel the week prior. Though WTI traded relatively flat last week, it has been up 5% since January and broke $100 per barrel for the first time since December 27. Last week, reported inventories data showed a larger-than-expected build in crude inventories, which is generally a negative signal to crude prices. However, the reported stocks at Cushing, a major oil hub in Oklahoma, continued to fall by 2.7 million barrels last week, which was the largest weekly decline since July, driving the total stocks there to 37.6 million barrels. The market weighed this as a positive catalyst for WTI prices as the WTI oil benchmark price is determined at Cushing. For more on the latest inventories report, please see How could inventories data affects the market.
