Republicans on the special House panel investigating the transfer of fetal tissue from aborted babies will present evidence in a hearing today that breaks down the price per body part.
With release of this evidence, Republicans say, they have enough documentation to show that several abortion clinics and middleman procurement businesses may have violated federal law.
“It is just horrifying,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who leads the House’s investigation of the fetal tissue industry, told The Daily Signal. “They are putting a dollar value on these organs from these children—unborn children that have been aborted. It is just beyond belief.”
According to Republicans involved in the investigation, a researcher paid a middleman procurement company $3,340 for a fetal brain, $595 for a “baby skull matched to upper and lower limbs,” and $890 for “upper and lower limbs with hands and feet.”

Boris Johnson has criticised the US president Barack Obama and suggested his attitude to Britain might be based on his “part-Kenyan” heritage and “ancestral dislike of the British empire”.
Writing a column for The Sun newspaper the outgoing Mayor of London recounted a story about a bust of Winston Churchill purportedly being removed from White House.
“Some said it was a snub to Britain. Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan President’s ancestral dislike of the British empire – of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender,” he wrote.

The White House said in 2012 that the story of the bust being moved was “100 per cent false” and that the bust remained in the White House, having been moved to the President's private residence.
It was however later forced to clarify that the Churchill bust still located in the President's residence was in fact a different bust, and that one had indeed been removed.
The Mayor said that the US would never dream of engaging in an arragement similar to the EU.
“It is deeply anti-democratic – and much as I admire the United States, and much as I respect the President, I believe he must admit that his country would not dream of embroiling itself in anything of the kind,” he said.

ISLAMIC State militants have reportedly executed 250 women after they refused to take part in sexual jihad.

Reports have emerged that the girls were killed in the IS stronghold of Mosul after they refused temporary marriages to fighters and become sex slaves.
The girls were murdered, some alongside their families, following their refusal to abide by the militants’ demands in Iraq’s second largest city, The Hindu reported.
Kurdish Democratic Party spokesman Said Mamuzini told London-based Kurdish news agency AhlulBayt that girls were ordered to accept the temporary marriages or face certain death.
“At least 250 girls have so far been executed by the IS for refusing to accept the practice of sexual jihad, and sometimes the families of the girls were also executed for rejecting to submit to IS’s request,” he said.
An official from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party Ghayas Surchi said women and human rights are continually being violated in IS-held territories.
Not only are women not allowed to go out alone but they cannot choose their partners.
Stories of IS brutality, particularly towards women, are not uncommon.
Last November, the world was horrified when the United Nations testimony revealed how a woman was burnt alive by Islamic State for refusing an extreme sex act.
Zainab Bangura, the UN’s special representative on sexual violence in conflict, said IS militants were institutionalising sexual violence, revealing how the brutalisation of women and girls is central to their ideology.”

China's Defense Ministry appeared Thursday to confirm a test of an intercontinental missile.
A three-sentence statement posted on the ministry's website posed the question of whether China had fired an ICBM in the area of the disputed South China Sea, which is claimed almost entirely by China.
In its response, the ministry said China maintains that "technological research experiments conducted according to plan within China's boundaries are normal and are not aimed at any specific nations or targets." Media reports about the location of the test were "purely speculation," it said.
The statement follows a report in the U.S. newspaper Washington Free Beacon that quoted unidentified Pentagon officials as saying China tested its longest-range DF-41 missile with two multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles on Tuesday. The report did not say where the test took place, but referenced recent tensions between China and the U.S. over Beijing's actions to shore up its claims to the South China Sea.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is doubling down on a strategy of not releasing transcripts of speeches she gave to Goldman Sachs and other investment banks.
Clinton has refused to release any of the transcripts in the face of a pressure campaign from rival candidate Bernie Sanders, who has relentlessly attacked the Democratic front-runner as being too closely tied to Wall Street.

“She’s not going to basically create a standard that isn’t applied to anyone else in this race,” said one longtime Clinton ally and confidante of her position on releasing the transcripts.The issue has been an effective line of attack from Sanders, who has closed the gap with Clinton in national polls.
It also appears to have hurt Clinton, who has seen her favorability rating in polls drop below 50 percent. Just as bad, Clinton has seen her marks fall with Americans when they are asked whether they trust her or see her as honest.
At the same time, Sanders is now coming under growing pressure to pull back on his attacks after Clinton’s big win in New York’s primary. Clinton defeated Sanders in her adopted home state by more than 15 percentage points, a victory that underlined her status as the Democratic front-runner.
Sanders has vowed to fight on but will hear criticism from his colleagues in the Senate if he continually demands that Clinton release the transcripts.
Clinton allies maintain that the issue around releasing the transcripts backfired on Sanders in New York. They also think Wall Street in general and the transcripts in particular won't be as effective an argument in the general election.
For one thing, Republicans as a party are seen as close to the financial industry. Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee, worked as a venture capitalist and was badly hurt by a remark, recorded surreptitiously, that 47 percent of Americans would not vote for him because they were dependant on government handouts.

Sales rose 5.4 percent at established U.S. McDonald's restaurants in the first quarter, marking the third straight increase as the world's biggest burger chain fights to stage a comeback.

The Oak Brook, Illinois, company attributed strong sales to the introduction of its all-day breakfast menu last fall, as well as a new ``McPick 2'' value deal that replaced its long-running Dollar Menu.

CEO Steve Easterbrook said Friday that he was pleased that the "turnaround is taking hold."

McDonald's is trying to win back customers after conceding that it failed to keep up with changing tastes. The company is also looking at stepping up its core menu items. That includes testing a version of its Big Mac with more generous beef patties.

Still, the chain is under pressure from intensifying competition. Burger King and Wendy's are also stepping up new offerings and deals, and Starbucks is trying to get into the food game more with breakfast sandwiches and lunch offerings.

For the quarter, McDonald's said global sales rose 6.2 percent at established locations. The International Lead unit, which includes established markets such as the U.K. and Australia, saw growth of 5.2 percent.

The High Growth unit, which includes China, saw sales increase 3.6 percent.

Beijing is now targeting the crown jewels in the US economy in its latest, ongoing effort to distance the country from its long-term "frenemy."
Apple is the latest victim in a long list of Silicon Valley giants, who have had their wings clipped in the billion-plus nation. A report by The New York Times on Friday said that the government had shut down Apple's iBooks Store and iTunes Movies, six months after their debut.

The Beijing media and culture regulator reportedly demanded the stores' closing, according to sources speaking to the newspaper.
It's another sign that China's relations with the US tech industry are deteriorating.
The company's "services" unit, which houses its content stores, accounts for $4.8 billion in revenue as of its fiscal first quarter earnings -- or about 3 percent of its revenue -- representing a small but growing part of the company's business.
But it's still not clear why the move was made to pull the stores.

Some suspect it's an attack on free speech and expression, or a "crackdown on Western ideology," as the Times put it. Given the country's history of censorship and free speech violations, it wouldn't be all that surprising.
But while that may in part be true, this could be just another chapter in a long list of smaller events that have distanced the country from its Western counterparts in the wake of the NSA surveillance revelations, after whistleblower Edward Snowden leaked thousands of classified documents to journalists.

Japan's first stealth fighter jet successfully took to the skies on Friday as the country joins a select group of world military powers wielding the radar-dodging technology.

Technological super power Japan, despite strict constitutional constraints on the use of military force imposed after World War II, has one of the world's most advanced defence forces and the development of the stealth fighter comes as it faces new security challenges in the form of China's expanding force posture.

The domestically developed X-2 jet took off from Nagoya airport in central Japan on its maiden test flight as dozens of aviation enthusiasts watching the event erupted in applause as it lifted off into the clear morning sky.

Television footage showed the red-and-white aircraft roaring into the air, escorted by two Japanese military fighters that were collecting flight data.

The single-pilot prototype safely landed at Gifu air base, north of Nagoya airport, after a 25-minute flight with "no particular problems," said an official at the defence ministry's acquisition agency.

It was an "extremely stable" flight, the pilot was quoted as saying by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the main contractor.

South Korea ranks 11th in the world in terms of military strength, according to the website Global Firepower which provides annual assessments of countries’ war capacities.

The ranking took into account the number and diversity of weapons, geographical factors, logistics, natural resources, industry and manpower. Current political or military leadership was not considered.

Seoul dropped from seventh place in 2015 and ninth place in 2014. Japan moved up two spots to No. 7. It had ranked No. 9 in 2015 and No. 10 the year before. North Korea ranks 25th.

Military powerhouse U.S. retained its top spot, followed by Russia, China, India, France and the United Kingdom.
