While by now everyone should know the answer, for those curious why the US unemployment rate just slid once more to a meager 5.9%, the lowest print since the summer of 2008, the answer is the same one we have shown every month since 2010: the collapse in the labor force participation rate, which in September slid from an already three decade low 62.8% to 62.7% - the lowest in over 36 years, matching the February 1978 lows.
And while according to the Household Survey, 232,000 people found jobs, what is more disturbing is that the people not in the labor force, rose to a new record high, increasing by 315,000 to 92.6 million!

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan – the Taliban group that seeks the overthrow of the Pakistani government – has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State, or ISIS, and has directed jihadists across the region to help ISIS set up its caliphate.
ISIS declared its caliphate from territory seized last June from northeastern Syria to western and central Iraq, and threatens to take over all of the Levant that includes Jordan, the rest of Syria, Lebanon and Israel.
ISIS and its caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, already have received backing from Abdul Maulana Aziz, a follower of the Afghan Taliban supreme leader Mulla Mohammad Omar who led the infamous Red Mosque rebellion in Pakistan.
Aziz also is close to the Tehnik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, as WND recently revealed.
The TTP seeks to overthrow by violent means the Pakistani government, which possesses nuclear weapons.
Aziz’s support for Baghdadi and ISIS comes as Pakistan, a predominantly Sunni country, faces yet another political crisis that threatens the existence of its democratic secular government. Political opponents of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have demanded his resignation, which he has refused.
His opponents want sweeping constitutional reform to replace parliamentary democracy and to confront alleged corruption that has crept into the electoral process.
However, jihadist groups see an opportunity now to assert their influence as Pakistan’s political crisis grows worse.
Until now, the Afghan Taliban had been aligned with al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.
As further evidence of the TTP’s allegiance to ISIS, the jihadist group’s supporters have been seen in the Pakistani city of Peshawar distributing pamphlets praising ISIS.
In addition, ISIS flags have been seen in street rallies in Indian-administered Kashmir.

An Internet video released Friday purports to show an Islamic State group fighter beheading British hostage Alan Henning, the fourth such killing carried out by the extremist group now targeted in U.S.-led airstrikes.
The video mirrored other beheading videos shot by the Islamic State group, which now holds territory along the border of Syria and Iraq, and ended with a militant threatening a man they identified as an American named Peter Kassig.
"Obama, you have started your aerial bombardment of Shams (Syria), which keeps on striking our people, so it is only right that we continue to strike the neck of your people," the masked militant in the video said.
National Security Council Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden confirmed that Kassig was being held by Islamic State militants, in a statement issued Friday evening.

GM HAS A WINNING NEW CORVETTE Z06 THAT GOES FROM 0-60 IN UNDER 2.95 SECONDS
General Motors' new Chevrolet Corvette Z06, expected to go on sale early next year, can launch itself from a dead stop to 60 miles an hour in less time than it probably took you to read this sentence.
In acceleration tests the 650 horsepower Z06 got to 60 in just under three seconds -- 2.95 seconds to be very precise -- and ran a quarter mile in under 11 seconds. These are feats that few street-legal production cars can match. Those that can, generally cost much more than the Z06 which will start at about $79,000. Even the V10-powered Dodge Viper SRT, which recently had its starting price reduced to about $85,000 from just over $100,000, doesn't claim a zero to 60 time under three seconds.

On MSNBC's Hardball tonight, host Chris Matthews tussled with Obamacare architect Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel over the how serious a threat Ebola is to Americans. Matthews and Emanuel also spar over President Obama saying it was "unlikely" that an Ebola case would strike the U.S.
"Obama said it was unlikely. It has happened. It's here," Matthews said.
Dr. Emanuel said there is some "fear mongering" going on here, but Matthews said he was just quoting the president and stating facts. Here's a bit of the argument that lasted nearly ten minutes:

Ryan Dobson, son of Dr. James Dobson and vice president of broadcast for Family Talk, suggested there may be more of an agenda behind networks pushing “Naked” TV shows than just money.
“Ted Baehr from Movieguide.org talks about this, that in general, movies are all about profits,” Dobson told WND, “but TV shows, while money is still a Top 5 motivation, there’s still an ideology that’s being taught.
“The ‘Naked’ programs, the ‘Real Housewives’ of whatever, you watch those programs, and you see how people relate to each other. It’s teaching people something,” Dobson continued. “If you’re not having these knock-down, drag-out, screaming fights with your husband, then apparently you don’t have ‘passion’ in your life, and they’re teaching people to behave this way.
“Even Disney programs, where the kids speak so disrespectfully to their parents, “he continued, “if you play that in the background long enough, over time, parents think that’s how kids talk to parents – but it’s not; it’s how scripted TV program children talk to the their TV parents.”

Just two days before NPR reported that Attorney General Eric Holder will resign from his job, a U.S. District Judge denied a request by Holder’s Department of Justice to keep secret a listing of documents sought by plaintiffs in a lawsuit over the Operation Fast and Furious (OFF) scandal.
Judicial Watch, which is suing to obtain OFF-related documents the DOJ has refused to release in spite of a 2012 Freedom of Information Act request for the information, touted the ruling on its website, quoting U.S. District Judge John D. Bates, who appeared unconvinced by the DOJ’s argument that it needed more time to produce the OFF list:
Judicial Watch announced today that on September 23, 2014, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that by October 22, the Department of Justice (DOJ) must submit a “Vaughn index” listing Fast and Furious materials Judicial Watch sought in its June 2012 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and subsequent September 2012 FOIA lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. Department of Justice (No. 1:12-cv-01510)). A Vaughn index must: (1) identify each document withheld; (2) state the statutory exemption claimed; and (3) explain how disclosure would damage the interests protected by the claimed exemption.
Bates has given the DOJ until October 22 to cough up the list. Here are his reasons for ending the DOJ stonewall:
The Department first points to Judge [Amy Berman] Jackson’s November 3 deadline in House Committee [lawsuit for DOJ Fast and Furious documents] … But this misreads Judge Jackson’s opinion. As that court reasoned, ‘[s]ince the deadline in Judicial Watch was set first, it makes sense for defendant to complete that effort and then turn his attention to the list that is due in this case’ … This rationale counsels against dramatically shifting the goalposts in this case.

According to numbers from Bloomberg, Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) is leading the nation’s biggest defense contractors in a trend of higher-than-ever stock prices. The trend can mostly be attributed to President Barack Obama’s declaration that the U.S. will conduct open-ended airstrikes on Iraq and Syria, leading shareholders to anticipate rising sales in drones, missiles and other implements of death and destruction.
“As we ramp up our military muscle in the Mideast, there’s a sense that demand for military equipment and weaponry will likely rise,” said Jack Ablin, a defense investing expert, told Bloomberg. “To the extent we can shift away from relying on troops and rely more heavily on equipment — that could present an opportunity.”
Defense stocks are currently outpacing the broader market, as Bloomberg’s index of the four largest Pentagon contractors shows 19 percent growth for the companies this year. That’s compared to 2.2 percent growth for the Standard & Poor’s 500 index.

NASA’s Mars mission was announced in September 2008, taking six years to reach the planet’s orbit.
Then-Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the country’s Mars aspirations in August 2012. A little over two years later, the first photos from Martian orbit arrived in Delhi.
Both the American and Indian missions are focused on solving the mysteries of the Martian atmosphere.
While Earth is surrounded by a rich, thick atmosphere of mainly oxygen and nitrogen, Mars is clad in a thin layer of mostly carbon dioxide.
But there are also traces of methane, which the sensors of the Indian craft will soon be inhaling for analysis.
“The large contributor of methane on Earth is living things,” said Ms Caprarelli.
“By looking at the distribution of methane around the planet scientists hope to figure out if there are some areas where to this day methane is being released and whether that indicates some kind of microbial activity.”

The international effort against Islamic militants will top news shows on Sunday.
Top officials from the Obama administration and leading lawmakers will discuss the issue in a series of interviews, which come days after other countries formally joined the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which is also known as ISIL.
Britain, Denmark and Belgium have all recently agreed to send fighter jets to join the campaign against the organization, which has claimed large swaths of Iraq and Syria.
This week, British Prime Minister David Cameron called Parliament back from recess to vote on its participation in the strikes, lending a boost of support to the U.S. effort.
A similar vote is unlikely in Washington, where lawmakers have disagreed over whether or not congressional authorization is needed for U.S. strikes. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) indicated this week that Congress should wait to debate a new authorization for use of military force until next year, when the new crop of lawmakers has been sworn in.
The Obama administration has maintained that it has the legal power to launch strikes against ISIS in Iraq and Syria under votes cast in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, but the president has nonetheless said he would welcome congressional backing.

Police fired tear gas as tens of thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators brought parts of central Hong Kong to a standstill Sunday, in a dramatic escalation of protests that have gripped the semi-autonomous Chinese city for days.
There were chaotic scenes, with protesters screaming “Shame!” at police as they tried to shield themselves from the clouds of gas, AFP reporters said.
Several scuffles broke out between police in riot gear and demonstrators angered by the use of tear gas, which is rare in Hong Kong. An elderly woman was seen being carried away by protesters.
Police had earlier used hand-held pepper spray on demonstrators who had spilt onto a major multi-lane highway after breaking through barricades set up to stop people swelling the crowds camped outside Hong Kong’s government headquarters since Friday.
