Fifty-eight percent (58%) of American Adults consider the Fourth of July one of the nation’s most important holidays, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY THE BIRTH OF A GREAT NATION–TO DEBUNK THE LEFTIST AMONGST US

Happy Independence Day, or, as the left might call it this year, “Original Sin Saturday.” July 4^th is when we celebrate the birth of The United States. But, whereas you commemorate the inception of what Lincoln called “the last best hope of earth,” liberals lament that flawed people had the audacity to create a flawed nation. Then, that flawed nation had the bad taste to prosper!

It’s that left-wing understanding of America that’s behind the push to erase or blur our history. The purge of the Confederate flag is currently the noisiest, but by no means the only, prong of the attack from activists and academics and the media who love them.

Take for example, the secular liberal effort to erase the nation’s Christian foundation. Don’t believe me? Ask Huffington Post, Salon, Alternet, The New York Times or the angry atheist groups. The Constitution established no state religion and left it at that. To suggest that the Founders worked to create this nation in a secular vacuum uninformed by Judeo-Christian ideas and free of shared Christian assumptions about good and evil, responsibility and sin is an ahistorical farce.

But liberals are on a mission, and inconvenient facts are unwelcome. From the people on our money to the content of our textbooks and the interpretations of our founding documents, American leftists seek to obfuscate, distort and erase our history. Here are four of the ways.

I’m proud to be an American because we have done something no other great nation in the history of the world has done – we have used our great power not to enslave others, but to enable them.

I am proud because America is exceptional for many reasons:  for our constitution, our melting pot culture, our classless society, and because we, from our earliest days, have been the world’s land of opportunity. But it’s more than just our unique history, or geography, or resources, or system of government. It’s more than our ethnic diversity, our melting pot culture, or the land of opportunity, or our constitution that enshrines individual liberty.

We are exceptional also because we have built into our national DNA the ability to reinvent ourselves both individually and as a society, socially as well as economically.

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION TO BE EMBRACED IN FREEDOM WAS FOR ALL AS BOTH BLACKS AND WHITES PARTICIPATED IN ITS BIRTH 239 YEARS AGO

There are aspects of the American Revolution that are neither well known nor appreciated. To be sure, the signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave and great men, as ex-slave, abolitionist and fiery orator Frederick Douglass acknowledged in his July 5, 1852, speech in Rochester, N.Y. But Douglass, noting slavery’s continued existence 76 years after the first Independence Day, advised the crowd: “This Fourth of July is yours, not mine.”

“What, to the American slave,” asked Douglass, “is your Fourth of July?” Douglass said that the “rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me.”

Douglass’s denouncing the injustice of slavery in the midst of a celebration of liberty is now a storied event.

But less understood or appropriately recognized during most July 4 celebrations is that the American Revolution, although not fought on behalf of slaves, was not a whites-only undertaking.

The political freedom resulting from the war was earned on battlefields at Lexington and Concord, at the Battle of Bunker Hill and beyond, with the help of black soldiers, both free and enslaved, who fought with the Continental Army.

A 1903 PICTURE OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE KNOWN TO BE ONE OF THE OLDEST WAS RECOVERED FROM A TIME CAPSULE INSIDE THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT TO BE PUT ON DISPLAY IN MARYLAND

One of the earliest known photographs of the Declaration of Independence was recently rediscovered after hiding for a century here, buried in a wall along with other artifacts celebrating the American experiment.

The 1903 picture taken by L.C. Handy, nephew of famed Civil War photographer Matthew Brady, was discovered in one of two time capsules locked inside the nation’s first monument undertaken in honor of George Washington. Crews dug out the capsules during a a $5.5 million overhaul of the monument that began early last year.

The Maryland Historical Society will display the contents of both capsules to the public on Saturday, 200 years to the day after the monument’s cornerstone was laid amid a jubilant celebration. Other items include coins, newspapers and a Bible printed in 1812.

“It all ties right in to the patriotic idea of the formation of this country and George Washington’s involvement as basically the man that made it all happen,” said Mark Letzer, president and chief executive of the society.

Benjamin Franklin would greet the country’s 239^th birthday with profound shock, if his comment “at the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787” is any indication. A lady had “queried [him] as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation. ‘Well, doctor, what have we got: a republic or a monarchy?’”

Franklin responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

How does one “keep” a “republic” — or, more essentially, keep the freedom that a republic supposedly protects? The Founding Fathers were not only unanimous but insistent and explicit about the requirements for such a feat. Yet Americans have spurned their stipulations for over a century and a half now. Hence, the incredulity of Franklin and the other Founders that the United States still survives. And though we can debate whether it remains a republic, for sure it’s no longer free.

Indeed, Franklin predicted our slide into totalitarianism. “[O]nly a virtuous people are capable of freedom,” he observed. “As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

Patrick Henry also praised virtue, along with “morality and religion,” as “the great pillars of all government and of social life …” So did John Adams: “[I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.”

Why? What renders virtue, morality and religion — by which the Founders meant biblical Christianity — so indispensable to political freedom? Why are they its prerequisites? And what does their eviction from modern America portend for us?

Sam Adams hinted at one reason liberty depends on Christian virtue and morality while the Continental Congress was signing the Declaration of Independence. “We have this day restored the Sovereign, to whom alone men ought to be obedient,” Adams said. “He reigns in Heaven, and with a propitious eye beholds his subjects assuming that freedom of thought, and dignity of self-direction which He bestowed on them.”………

Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement is likely to incur more resistance to reforms in the coming years after the recent defeat of a China-backed proposal for restricted elections in the city, analysts say.

Nearly 50,000 people demonstrated in the streets of Hong Kong on Wednesday, the anniversary of the city’s transfer from British to Chinese rule in 1997. Democracy advocates say Beijing has failed to fulfill its promise to Hong Kong of sustaining a “one country, two systems” policy, whereby city residents would enjoy free elections and more civil liberties than the mainland.

Pro-democratic lawmakers in Hong Kong’s legislature voted last month to block Beijing’s plan for the city’s elections, which sparked mass protests last year. The “Umbrella Movement”—named after the protesters’ use of umbrellas to shield themselves from pepper spray—captured global attention and renewed calls for democratic reforms in the financial center.

North Korea has asked the Iranian Red Crescent for emergency relief after the worst drought in a century, Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Thursday.
North Korean Ambassador to Iran Kang Sam-hyon asked the head of the Iranian Red Crescent, Seyed Amir Mohsen Ziaee, for humanitarian aid on Tuesday.
Kang said the North is suffering economic difficulties due to sanctions and the drought. "We need equipment to overcome the drought and improve the agricultural environment,” he added.
Kang made the request on behalf North Korean Premier Pak Pong-ju, IRNA added.
Iran "is duty bound to render humanitarian aid to all countries," Ziaee was quoted as saying, and Iran will "spare no efforts" once it has assessed the situation.
It is unclear whether the North also asked other countries for help.
South Korea and China have offered food aid to the North, but it has not yet accepted.
Tehran and Pyongyang have friendlier ties than the North's immediate neighbors, which have long been frustrated by the regime's antics.
North Korea and Iran have allegedly cooperated in nuclear and missile development, and Pyongyang backed Tehran during the Iran-Iraq War.
Iran is about to conclude a nuclear deal with the U.S., while the North's international isolation is growing because it refuses to negotiate about its nuclear arms development.

People in the Windy City soon will be paying a little more to stream their favorite movies, TV shows and music.
Chicago has enacted a "cloud tax," which will tack on 9 percent to streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
It's an expansion of the city's amusement tax, which taxes things like movies and tickets to sporting events. The streaming provision of the amusement tax takes effect in September, and the city estimates it will bring in $12 million annually.
The Sun-Times reported that Chicago is the first major city to enact a tax on digital services. Other cities, such as New York, already tax entertainment and information services.
“In an environment in which technologies and emerging industries evolve quickly, the city periodically issues rulings that clarify the application of existing laws to these technologies and industries,” said mayoral spokeswoman Elizabeth Langsdorf in a statement.

The chief technology officer at the IRS was "blown away" after learning backup tapes that likely contained messages to and from controversial ex-official Lois Lerner were destroyed, according to an internal government watchdog report. 

The 1,600-page report, prepared by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, examined the agency's handling of Lerner's missing emails and apparent computer crash. Lerner is the former official at the heart of the scandal over IRS targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups, but lawmakers were told last year that some of her electronic communications had been lost. 

The effort to recover those files has seemingly been marked by a string of blunders. Inspector General J. Russell George first told lawmakers last week that 422 backup tapes were "magnetically erased" around March 4, 2014, meaning thousands of emails might never be recovered. 

The IG report, which is not expected to be made public but has been viewed by Fox News, does not point to any deliberate cover-up. The report says investigators found "no evidence that the IRS and its employees purposely erased the tapes in order to conceal" some of the emails in question. 

However, the report demonstrates the IRS did a sloppy job retaining documents despite a House Ways and Means Committee directive to do so.

A unit that has guarded the Korean peninsula's tense border for five decades has been inactivated and replaced with the Army's first rotational brigade combat team deployed to the area.

The 2nd Infantry Division's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team -- known as the "Iron Brigade" -- was inactivated Thursday morning during a ceremony at Camp Casey. Assuming its responsibilities is the Fort Hood-based 1st Calvary Division's 2nd "Black Jack" Brigade Combat Team, which is in Area 1 on a nine-month deployment.

Military officials have touted the move to rotational deployments of units stationed along the Demilitarized Zone as a way to maintain cohesion in a theater where constant turnover is the norm. Troops are typically stationed in South Korea on one- or two-year tours. But under the rotational deployment plan, entire units will train for and deploy to the peninsula together.

"I can tell you that when this transfer of authority takes place, our amount of readiness goes up," said Gen. Theodore Martin, 2ID commander. Having intact rotational units deploy to the division also means he won't see a turnover of about 10 percent of his forces each month, he said.

Prior to this deployment, the Black Jack Brigade completed training at Fort Irwin's National Training Center in California that focused on Korea-specific operations and the ability to secure weapons of mass destruction.

When the brigade completes its tour, it will be replaced by another combined-arms brigade combat team.

The Iron Brigade, headquartered in South Korea since 1965, has spent the past months preparing for the transition, and is leaving its armored personnel carriers and other tactical vehicles for the Black Jack Brigade and future rotational forces.

The September bulletin from the Federal Reserve includes an observation that presents a problem for the Obama administration’s avowed war on income inequality: Over the past three years, only the very rich have increased their wealth. On average, everyone else — and that’s roughly 97 percent of all Americans — is either treading water or drowning.

According to the Fed bulletin, the wealth held by the richest Americans has surged to historically high levels, but it’s not a trend that extends to the upper-middle, middle and lower classes — in other words, the vast majority.

Here’s how the Fed’s Board of Governors describes the disparity:

Income inequality, particularly the share of income received by the top 1 percent of the income distribution, has received increased attention in recent years. The Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) is uniquely capable of contributing to our understanding of trends in income and wealth inequality because the survey collects data on net worth in addition to income, and it also effectively samples affluent families.

Data from the 2013 SCF confirm that the shares of income and wealth held by affluent families are at modern historically high levels. Also, the gains in income and wealth shares have been concentrated among the top few percentiles of the distribution. Contrary to some analysis of Internal Revenue Service data indicating wealth gains are isolated to the top 1 percent, or even 0.5 percent, data from the SCF show that the top few percent of families have experienced rising shares of income and wealth.

The bulletin goes on to show that only the top three percent of income earners in the U.S. has both rebounded from and added to their wealth since the general economic downturn beginning in 2007.

A record 93,626,000 Americans 16 or older did not participate in the nation’s labor force in June, as the labor force participation rate dropped to 62.6 percent, a 38-year low, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In June, according to BLS, the nation’s civilian noninstitutional population, consisting of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, hit 250,663,000. Of those, 157,037,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.

The 157,037,000 who participated in the labor force equaled only 62.6 percent of the 250,663,000 civilian noninstitutional population, the lowest labor force participation rate seen in 38 years. It hasn’t been this low since October 1977 when the participation rate was 62.4 percent. 

Another 93,626,000 did not participate in the labor force. These Americans did not have a job and were not actively trying to find one.

TV Land has pulled reruns of Dukes of Hazzard in light of the recent uproar over the Confederate flag, which is emblazoned on the roof of the show's iconic General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The show has faced criticism over the depiction of the controversial flag in the wake of the June 17 shooting in Charleston, S.C., that left nine dead, and what many viewed as South Carolina's delayed decision to take the flag down.

Confederate merchandise has since been dropped by Walmart, Target, Amazon and other businesses after the shooting, which took place at a historic black church.

Shortly after the attack, photos surfaced showing alleged shooter Dylann Roof burning one American flag and stepping on another, while waving and posing provocatively with Confederate banners.

Warner Bros.' consumer division announced on June 24 that it will stop licensing toy cars and models featuring the General Lee with the flag.

In a recent interview with THR, Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider defended the series' use of the flag. "Labeling anyone who has the flag a 'racist' seems unfair to those who are clearly 'never meanin' no harm,'" he said. His co-star Ben Jones has also come out in defense of the flag, saying it represents the "indomitable spirit of independence."

While the kneejerk reaction algos were focusing on the +223K jobs number reported by the Establishment Survey, few if anyone notched that the Household survey reported a decline of 56,000 workers in June.

But what's worse, is that according to this survey which according to some is far more reliable than its peer, the composition of the US labor force once again deteriorated rapidly with part-time jobs added in June surging by 161,000 while the number of full time jobs tumbled by 349,000.

 

Putting this number in context, while the total number of US workers has long since surpassed its previous crisis high, the number of full time US workers has yet to overtake its November 2007 lever of 121.9 million, and in June dropped to 121.1 million.

It started as an ordinary spat among high school girls, sparked by an unpaid restaurant bill.

At an ice cream parlor in Rowland Heights, the dispute took a dark turn.

Three girls ganged up on Yiran "Camellia" Liu, forcing her to kneel and use her hands to wipe cigarette butts and ice cream smears off the floor, according to Liu's court testimony.

More teenagers joined the fray. Liu testified that they took her to a nearby park, where they stripped her naked, kicked her with high-heeled shoes, slapped her hundreds of times and burned her nipples with cigarettes.

They cut off her hair and made her eat it, she testified. Someone snapped cellphone photos of her.

A girl named Helen said to the others, "Just slow it down and don't hit her so hard, and we can do it a longer stretch of time," Liu testified at a preliminary hearing.

The March 30 attack has prompted soul-searching not just in Rowland Heights but also in China — the victim and her alleged attackers were "parachute kids," part of a new wave of Chinese youngsters who live in Southern California and attend local schools while their parents remain back home.

Parachute kids typically stay in private homes in the San Gabriel Valley, paying for room, board, transportation and substitute parenting from their hosts. Most are in high school, though some are younger, studying here to get a jump start on admission to an American college.

When Donald Trump said something not exuberantly enthusiastic about Mexican immigrants, the media's response was to boycott him. One thing they didn't do was produce any facts showing he was wrong.
Trump said: "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
The first thing a fact-checker would have noticed is: THE GOVERNMENT WON'T TELL US HOW MANY IMMIGRANTS ARE COMMITTING CRIMES IN AMERICA.
Wouldn't that make any person of average intelligence suspicious? Not our media. They're in on the cover-up.
A curious media might also wonder why any immigrants are committing crimes in America. A nation's immigration policy, like any other government policy, ought to be used to help the people already here -- including the immigrants, incidentally.
It's bad enough that immigrants, both legal and illegal, are accessing government benefits at far above the native rate, but why would any country be taking another country's criminals? We have our own criminals! No one asked for more.
Instead of counting the immigrant stock filling up our prisons, the government issues a series of comical reports claiming to tally immigrant crime. The Department of Justice relies on immigrants' self-reports of their citizenship. The U.S. census simply guesses the immigration status of inmates. The Government Accounting Office conducts its own analysis of Bureau of Prisons data.
In other words, the government hasn't the first idea how many prisoners are legal immigrants, illegal immigrants or anchor babies.

In what is now a two-year-old dispute, Paris lawmakers this week opposed the opening of a new McDonald’s franchise in one of the French capital’s oldest and most picturesque roads.

The plan to inaugurate a two-story McDonald’s restaurant on the corner of Rue Réaumur and Rue des Petits-Carreaux – in the heart of the historic Montorgueil area – has come up against stiff resistance from residents and local leaders.

The pedestrian-only Rue de Montorgueil, which extends into the Rue des Petits-Carreaux, is renowned for its quaint shops, old cafés and fashionable restaurants. Queen Elizabeth II famously strolled down the street in 2004 as part of ceremonies marking the 100th anniversary of the "Entente cordiale" between Britain and France.

District mayor Jacques Boutault, a member of France’s green EELV party, has taken up the fight against McDonald’s, petitioning City Hall to block the hamburger giant from expanding on his turf.

Boutault said he wants to keep McDonald’s out in order to protect Montorgueil’s traditional shopkeepers from cutthroat competition and its children from unhealthy eating habits.

Residents and business owners have also expressed fear that the arrival of a multinational like McDonald’s will destroy the street’s identity, as well as raise rents and price them out of the historic area.

Among the attendees was local oncologist Ang Peng Tiam, who said that the buzzword resounding in the colossal halls of the event was "immunotherapy".

To put it simply, this strategy makes use of a patient's own immune cells to attack cancer.

Even before the meeting, there was great expectation that there would be a major breakthrough in this area, said Dr Ang, who is in private practice.

Among the highlights was the presentation of results from a phase-three trial that compared an immunotherapy drug, called nivolumab, with a conventional chemotherapy drug, docetaxel, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, said Dr Elaine Lim, a senior consultant at the department of medical oncology at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCCS).

These patients had failed to respond to standard first-line chemotherapy.

Each trial showed that those who received the immunotherapy drug lived an average of three months longer than those who received chemotherapy, said Dr Lim.

“Amanda is gorgeous, and she’s known as a big flirt with the other players on the PGA tour,” another source was quoted as saying.

“I guess her flirty ways and good looks caught Tiger’s eye.”

The report said Dufner was “devastated” when he learned of Woods’ alleged affair with his wife.

According to divorce papers filed on March 16, Boyd and Dufner cited an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” as the reason for the split.

The United States has blocked attempts by its Middle East allies to fly heavy weapons directly to the Kurds fighting Islamic State jihadists in Iraq, The Telegraph has learnt.
Some of America’s closest allies say President Barack Obama and other Western leaders, including David Cameron, are failing to show strategic leadership over the world’s gravest security crisis for decades.
They now say they are willing to “go it alone” in supplying heavy weapons to the Kurds, even if means defying the Iraqi authorities and their American backers, who demand all weapons be channelled through Baghdad.
High level officials from Gulf and other states have told this newspaper that all attempts to persuade Mr Obama of the need to arm the Kurds directly as part of more vigorous plans to take on Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) have failed. The Senate voted down one attempt by supporters of the Kurdish cause last month.
The officials say they are looking at new ways to take the fight to Isil without seeking US approval.

The Muslim immigration warnings offered by Dutch politician Geert Wilders—who was in the facility in Garland, Texas, that was attacked by terrorists last weekend—seem to be coming true.

Wilders, who has asked his own parliament to hold an exhibition on the Muhammed cartoons from the Garland, Texas event, has warned frequently that high levels of Muslim immigration without assimilation to the Western world—Europe and the United States of America—are dangerous to the culture and values of the West.

Wilders, a featured speaker at the Garland event, has been on a terror hit list since 2010 for proposing to place a tax on the Hijab worn by Muslim women in the Netherlands. He has also been vocal about stopping all Muslim immigration into the Netherlands.

“Take a walk down the street and see where this is going,” Wilders, referring to growing Muslim immigration into his country, previously said. “You no longer feel like you are living in your own country. There is a battle going on and we have to defend ourselves. Before you know it there will be more mosques than churches!”

Wilders’ warning rings true not just in the Netherlands, but in the United States as well.

Immigrants from the Middle East are currently the fastest growing immigration demographic coming into the U.S., a recent report from the Center for Immigration Studies shows. America in just three years imported more immigrants from the Middle East than from Mexico and Central America combined.

In that three years, there has been a 13 percent growth in the number of immigrants from Middle Eastern countries. And according to the Conservative Review, the immigrant population from the Middle East will double in fifteen years and triple by 2050.

In fact, the United Nations is currently planning to settle roughly one million refugees – mostly Muslims – in western countries, Fox News reports.

Samsung researchers have developed materials that double the power capacity of lithium-ion batteries.
Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) said the technology uses silicon cathode material coded with high-crystalline graphene to produce batteries with twice as much capacity as ordinary lithium-ion batteries.
The institute said the research result was published in the international science journal Nature Communication on Thursday.
The research team said the new technology is expected to enhance the performance of mobile devices and electric vehicles.
"The research has dramatically improved the capacity of lithium-ion batteries by applying a new synthesis method of high-crystalline graphene to a high-capacity silicon cathode," said Son In-hyuk, a professional researcher at SAIT. "We will continue to improve the secondary cell technology to meet the expanding demand from mobile device and electric vehicle markets."

The lithium-ion battery was introduced in 1991 and its storage capacity has been gradually improved. But the material's properties have limited improvements to capacity, failing to follow skyrocketing demand from the mobile and electric car industries.

Researchers have shown that machines are inching closer to self-learning, and perhaps even copping a little attitude.

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

“It will be JUST LIKE THIS on the day the Son of Man is revealed.”

Biltz said he expects a lull before the storm.

“We are coming to a place as in the days of Solomon where there will be a false peace that is based on lies, ungodly covenants, and no regard for the people,” Biltz said. “Just as Israel began to break apart after Solomon so is America entering a rapid state of decline.”

Gallups said the “convergence” of end-time prophecy is staggering. Israel is back in the land, Arab Spring, rise of ISIS, the aligning of the Ezekiel 38 nations against Israel, calls for a one-world government from the Pope, Israel surrounded by enemies, America turning its back on God and on God’s returned Israel, and “the whole world clamoring for a ‘savior’ to deliver us from the make-believe boogey man of man made global warming,’ and now the most powerful nation the planet has ever seen – thumbs its nose in God’s face – at the very core of God’s word and plan for humanity.”

But he said Christians should not hang their heads in despair.

“Let me encourage the children of God, under the blood of Jesus, to not grow weary in doing good. Be the salt and light in a world that is quickly growing dim. We were raised up by God Himself – for such a time as this.

“It’s not all falling apart,” he said. “It’s all coming together!”
