Currently SIM cards, the tiny bits of plastic you get from your carrier are needed to store your phone number, information about your phone plan and identifies you to your mobile carrier.
These SIM cards are programmed to work only with specific carriers which is what can make it difficult when changing carriers or travelling overseas.
The new electronic sim proposed by GSMA would be built into the device and allow you to switch between carriers you have an account with at will.

The FBI failed to stop another terror attack, this time in Chattanooga, and the pressure building on the bureau from President Obama’s reckless immigration policies may be reaching a boiling point, say security experts.
And the problem goes far beyond a loose border, where some 400,000 illegal aliens enter each year.
It’s also the ease with which someone from a hostile Middle Eastern country can get a visa.
Under current U.S. immigration policy, an ISIS terrorist doesn’t need to hop a fence or swim a river to reach America. He can enter the U.S. legally as a student, as a skilled guest-worker, as a refugee, as an entrepreneur, or as a tourist – and fly here in the comfort of a jumbo jet.
According to U.S. Census data, the U.S. welcomes about 100,000 Muslim immigrants legally each year. This represents the fastest growing segment of immigrants coming to America.
While some may enter with questionable backgrounds, the chances are greater that they will get radicalized after they arrive.
Take the case of Chattanooga terrorist Youssef Mohammad Abdulazeez.
He arrived with his parents from Kuwait in 1996 at the age of 6. He attended U.S. schools, and by all accounts was a fully assimilated U.S. naturalized citizen.
Abdulazeez was a success story just waiting to be told by Obama’s newly created White House Taskforce on New Americans, which collaborates with community-organizing groups like Welcoming America to convince Americans that expansive immigration brings only good things to their cities and towns.
But something happened over the last two years of Abdulazeez’s life that changed him. Last year, at the age of 23, he traveled to Jordan and Yemen for seven months, and U.S. intelligence agencies aren’t sure who he visited or what he may have been taught while visiting the Middle East.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel created a new tax earlier this month that taxes Internet cloud services such as Netflix. The mayor has also warned that increased property taxes are on the way to bail out both the city and the Chicago Public Schools.
Chicago Teachers’ Union leader Karen Lewis wants a commuter tax and a financial transaction tax to keep funding the city’s inefficiencies.
Here’s the catch: Taxpayers with the means and flexibility to leave Cook County can avoid the ever-growing tax burden by simply picking up and moving, which is what many have done for 20 years.
According to Internal Revenue Service data, from 1992 to 2011 Cook County suffered a net loss of 370,000 taxpayers to its collar counties and Lake County, Indiana. Those taxpayers took over $18.3 billion in taxable income with them when they left, creating an ever-growing hole in Cook County and Chicago’s budgets.
A review of the data shows the top six counties to which residents of Cook County have fled. It also reveals how much money those residents took with them:
- DuPage County won a net of 104,904 taxpayers who took more than $4.6 billion in taxable income with them.
- Will County won a net of 84,170 taxpayers who took $4.4 billion in taxable income with them.
- Lake County, Illinois, won a net of 67,906 taxpayers who took $4.1 billion in taxable income with them.
- Kane County won a net of 41,364 taxpayers who took $2.2 billion in taxable income with them.
- McHenry County won a net of 35,200 taxpayers who took $1.7 billion in taxable income with them.
- Lake County, Indiana, won a net of 35,296 taxpayers who took $1.3 billion in taxable income with them.
And within Cook County, Chicago households are the worst off.
Not only are Chicagoans on the hook for the sales-tax hike, but they’re also on the hook for a mountain of debt and several nearly bankrupt pension plans, including those of the city, its sister governments and Cook County.

So, now what?
A year from now, New Horizons will join four other unmanned spacecraft speeding out of our solar system: Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2.
“The Pioneers (are) now dead,” said Randii Wessen, a spokesman for NASA and an astronautical engineer who works on future mission concepts at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. The Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 explored Jupiter and Saturn in the 1970s and stopped sending information back to NASA in 2003 and 1995, respectively.
Now they just float in space.
“These things have heliocentric escape velocity,” Wessen said, meaning they have the ability to leave the sun’s gravitational pull. “These were given enough speed that the pull of the sun is going to slow them up but it won’t stop them from their departure from the solar system. So they’re just going to glide, dead, leaving our star forever.”
Voyagers 1 and 2, which also were launched in the 1970s, are still transmitting data back to NASA. According to Wessen, NASA gets 16 hours of information a day from the Voyagers, but they’re losing fuel and power.
“We’re slowly turning off things to reduce the electrical demand so the power we do have is used for the critical systems,” Wessen said. “But what are you going to run out of first? We’re saying 2020-2025 is when we’re going to lose them.”

GM IN S KOREA HAS AN AFFORDABLE HIT VEHICLE THE 2015 SPARK WITH PREORDERS OF 3,300 IN THREE WEEKS TO DATE BEFORE SALES START THIS AUGUST
Preorders for GM Korea Co.'s latest version of the Spark city car have topped 3,000 in less than three weeks since its media showcase, industry data showed Friday.
On July 1, GM Korea, the local unit of U.S. carmaker General Motors Co., held a media event where it showcased the next-generation Spark and started to receive preorders. It plans to launch official sales in August.
During the past weeks, the preorder contracts reached around 3,300, which represented a daily average of over 300 units based on working days.
If this pace continues, its monthly sales could reach up to 7,000 units, similar to the sales pace of the market leader Morning of Kia Motors Corp.
The new Spark equipped with an improved powertrain, a refined and balanced design, and a series of new safety features comes in three trim levels and drivers can also choose from 10 different paint jobs for the exterior, as well as four colors for the interior.
Of the total preorder contracts, 60 percent opted to buy the highest LTZ trim, while 15 percent chose to purchase its Eco model that offers a fuel efficiency of 15.7 kmpl, which is better than other trims, the data showed.

South Korea plans to transform Busan into the world's No. 2 transshipment cargo port by 2020 by building up infrastructure and streamlining operations, the government said Tuesday.
The move could enable the country's largest sea port to outstrip Hong Kong for the second place slot among the world's transshipment harbors and place it below Singapore, the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries said.
Transshipment refers to the handling of containers and cargo at an intermediate destination before they are shipped somewhere else.
As of last year, Busan's transshipment volume hit 9.43 million twenty-foot equivalent units, with numbers to rise to 13 million TEUs by the target year. This can generate an economic impact of some 1.5 trillion won ($1.3 billion), the ministry said.
Located on South Korea's southeastern tip, Busan currently handles cargo moving to and from China, Japan, Russia, North and South America and Australia.
To reach the goal, the ministry said measures will be taken to gradually move all container operations, which make up the bulk of transshipment cargo from Busan's North Port, to its New Port in order to streamline operations.

An antiabortion group on Tuesday released an undercover video of an official at Planned Parenthood discussing in graphic detail how to abort a fetus to preserve its organs for medical research — as well as the costs associated with sharing that tissue with scientists.
Over lunch at a Los Angeles restaurant, two antiabortion activists posing as employees from a biotech firm met with Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical research. Armed with cameras, the activists recorded Nucatola talking about Planned Parenthood’s work donating fetal tissue to researchers and pressed her on whether the clinics were charging for the organs.
The Center for Medical Progress, which recorded and edited the video, says the footage proves that Planned Parenthood is breaking the law by selling fetal organs. But the video does not show Nucatola explicitly talking about selling organs. The Planned Parenthood official says the organization is “very, very sensitive” about being perceived as illegally profiting from organ sales and charges only for the cost, for instance, of shipping the tissue.
The video threatens to reignite a long-standing debate over the use of fetal tissue harvested through abortions and could add fuel to efforts seeking to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
In a statement, a spokesman for Planned Parenthood said the video misrepresents the organization’s work. Planned Parenthood clinics, with a patient’s permission, may sometimes donate fetal tissue for use in stem cell research, said the spokesman, who added that the group’s affiliates, which operate independently, do not profit from these donations.
“At several of our health centers, we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health-care provider does — with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards,” spokesman Eric Ferrero said. “In some instances, actual costs, such as the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers, are reimbursed, which is standard across the medical field.”
He accused the Center for Medical Progress of mounting a misleading attack similar to those by other groups that have tried to mount undercover “stings” targeting Planned Parenthood.
But antiabortion groups said the video shows that Planned Parenthood is essentially selling fetal organs and that Congress and other authorities should investigate.

The nuclear deal with Iran caused fury in Israel and consternation around the region at the likely increase in influence and resources of a newly enriched Iran.
Most telling was the loudest expression of support. "I am happy that the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved a great victory by reaching an agreement," President Bashar al-Assad of Syria said in a message to his Iranian opposite number, Hassan Rouhani.
"In the name of the Syrian people, I congratulate you and the people of Iran on this historic achievement."
Israel and the Sunni Arab world have set aside old grievances to stand together against the West’s engagement with Iran.
The more strident denunciations came from Israel, which regards Iran as a direct threat. Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, said the country would not be bound by what he called a "stunning historic mistake".
"Israel is not bound by this deal with Iran," he said in a televised address hours after the conclusion of the accord. "Iran continues to seek our destruction and we will defend ourselves."
Mr Netanyahu, who had condemned the deal even before it had been announced, said its terms failed to achieve the goal of denying Iran the capacity to build a nuclear bomb while, by lifting sanctions, enabled its theocratic rulers to increase their support for groups Israel considers terrorists.
"The bottom line of this very bad deal is exactly as Iran's President Rouhani said today - the international community is removing the sanctions and Iran is keeping its nuclear programme," he said.
Saudi Arabia regards Shia Iran as a competitor for leadership in the Muslim world, and sees its hand behind many of the region’s conflicts. The two are supporting opposite sides in wars in Syria and Yemen, while Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies fear Iran’s influence among their own Shia populations.
Saudi officials have previously voiced fears that increasing rapprochement between Washington and Tehran could eventually lead to Iran supplanting Saudi Arabia as America's main ally in the Persian Gulf.

It's been a long journey — nine and a half years, and just over 4.7 billion kilometres — to the furthest depths of our solar system, and like any tourist, this one is bringing a camera for our first close-up view of Pluto.
On July 14, NASA's aptly-named New Horizons spacecraft will reach its closest distance from Pluto with a 30-minute flyby of the difficult-to-see dwarf planet, which is the among the furthest known bodies from the sun.
At its closest, about 12,500 kilometres away from Pluto, New Horizons is expected to produce never before seen clear, colour images of the icy object, and should reveal parts of our universe previously left only to our imaginations.

Internet companies are deleting customer data so they do not have to hand it over to the police or spy agencies in a fresh row over privacy and security, it has emerged.
The worst culprits are “new, smaller” providers meaning a new generation of communication companies are refusing to cooperate with law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
The companies are uncomfortable cooperating with the authorities and are not retaining data to protect their customers’ online anonymity, an independent review of surveillance powers found.
The report does not name the companies in question.
Messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Kik and SnapChat have become very popular with terrorists and criminals for communicating with one another.
The security services are also "increasingly concerned" that they could be locked out from the communications of the most dangerous suspects because of sophisticated encryption techniques provided by companies.
The report, by a high profile panel for the Royal United Services Institute, also attacked the leaks by former CIA contractor Edward Snowden and said despite his disclosures there was no evidence of unlawful snooping by the spy agencies or mass surveillance.
However, there was a row within the panel, which included former heads of MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, because the report concluded there was no evidence the Government had “knowingly” acted illegally in intercepting communications.
That raised the prospect that the agencies may have inadvertently breached the law because the rules governing it are so complex and out of date.

Her car damaged, her nerves shaken, the victim of an alleged group attack near the University of Chicago campus spoke exclusively with ABC7 Eyewitness News.
Police say two people were arrested and charged, but Susan Pedersen says several dozen people were involved in the attack that left her two children covered in broken glass. They were in the back seat of the vehicle, which was left dented with the rear glass shattered.
"I'm very scared, very anxious, nervous. Just fearful," she said.
Broken glass littered the pavement at 60th and King Drive across from Washington Park, where the attack took place around 9 p.m. Thursday night. Pedersen says she had just dropped off a friend at the University of Chicago when she stopped at a red light and found her car surrounded by several dozen young people.
"They were walking around both sides of the vehicle - in the front, in the back - and as they were walking across, they were hitting my car, using racial slurs and telling me that I didn't belong in their neighborhood because I was white," Pedersen said.
The group, all African-American, she says, kicked the vehicle and shook it violently. Her children were screaming from the back of the vehicle.

AN Australian woman is in jail in Abu Dhabi after being found guilty of “writing bad words on social media”.
In February, Jodi Magi, 39, posted a picture on Facebook shaming a driver who had parked across two disabled parking spaces in her apartment block.
The post included no identifying details or names, but despite this attracted a police complaint leading to the West Australian woman having to appear in court last month.
Ms Magi says she was found guilty of “writing bad words on social media”, charged under the UAE Cyber Crime Law.
She was issued with a fine amounting to approximately $3,600, and told she would be deported.

IBM on Thursday unveiled a powerful new chip which the company says could boost computing power of “everything from smartphones to spacecraft.”
The company unveiled the industry’s first seven-nanometer chip that could hold more than 20 billion tiny switches or transistors for improved computing power.
The new chips could help meet demands of future cloud computing and Big Data systems, cognitive computing, mobile products and other emerging technologies, according to IBM, which developed the chip as part of a $3 billion research effort with Samsung and GlobalFoundries at the State University of New York at Albany.
Most chips today in PCs and other devices use microprocessors between 14 and 22 nanometers. The new technology this represents “at least a 50 percent power-performance improvement.”
“Enabling the first 7nm node transistors is a significant milestone for the entire semiconductor industry as we continue to push beyond the limitations of our current capabilities,” said Michael Liehr, the university’s vice president of innovation and research.
The research focused on getting around the physical limitations of existing materials, and was able to develop silicon-germanium transistors to boost processing power.

On Thursday, Michigan police arrested a Mexican illegal alien, 23-year-old Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez, after finding him with a 13-year-old Florida girl who had last been seen two days before her ordeal.
Cops acted on a tip that led them to a Hartford home where Hernandez-Gomez hid the girl while assaulting her.
Michigan authorities charged Hernandez-Gomez with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, meaning they believe he raped or otherwise penetrated the girl after incapacitating her or otherwise rendering her helpless. They have not released further details, such as whether or not the victim was related to the alien suspect. Hernandez-Gomez is being held on $150,000 bond in a Paw Paw Michigan jail and will be back in court on Wednesday.
Florida authorities plan to charge him with interference with child custody and felony kidnapping, according to WZZM 13, after Michigan ships him back to Polk County, Florida at an unspecified date. U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement has been notified, but it’s unclear how they will proceed.
Hernandez-Gomez hails from Chiapas, Mexico, where the sexual age of consent is 12.
