House Republican leaders abruptly pulled a rewrite of the nation’s health-care system from consideration on Friday, a dramatic defeat for President Trump and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that leaves a major campaign promise unfilled and casts doubt on the Republican Party’s ability to govern.
In addition to leaving the Affordable Care Act in place, the news also raises questions about the GOP’s ability to advance other high-stakes agenda items, including tax reform and infrastructure spending. Ryan is still without a signature achievement as speaker — and the defeat undermines Trump’s image as a skilled dealmaker willing to strike compromises to push his agenda forward.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Trump deflected any responsibility for the setback and blamed Democrats instead.
“We couldn’t get one Democratic vote and we were a little bit shy, very little, but it was still a little bit shy so we pulled it,” he said.
“I don’t blame Paul,” Trump said, referring to Ryan.

 The sunken ferry Sewol arrived near a semisubmersible ship that will be used to transport it to the port of Mokpo on South Korea's southwestern coast, the government said Friday.
"The Sewol was some 200 meters away from the semisubmersible ship as of 8:30 p.m.," said the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
It said salvage operators will now move to precisely place the 145-meter-long, 6,825-ton vessel onto the semisubmersible ship which has been waiting in a mild tidal area some 3 kilometers southeast of where the ship sank. The area where the Sewol capsized in April 2014 is known for strong tidal currents.
The ministry said it will make all-out efforts to finish the complicated process of placing the ferry on the transport ship before midnight when the neap tide period ends. The next neap tide is not until April 5.
Next, the hull will be tightly fixed to the semisubmersible ship over the next two or three days, and will then be transferred to Mokpo, some 87 kilometers to the east. This process is less affected by the weather, the government added.

ENGINEERS promising to turn London to New York into a day trip have got the funding they need to build the world’s fastest passenger jet.

Boom Supersonic said it received $33million (£26million) in funding and was ready to build its XB-1 jet prototype.

The XB-1- dubbed the “baby boom” – is backed by a host of wealthy tech bosses, astronauts and engineers and is tipped to be faster and more efficient than Concorde.
Seats will cost the same as major airline’s business class – but budget tickets could be on the cards too, according to Chief Executive Blake Scholl who claimed “that’s where we’re headed over time”.

Voter opposition to the Republican healthcare bill is the result of misunderstanding, and lawmakers will be able to "really explain it" once it becomes law, Rep. Chris Collins said Thursday.
"In my district, right now there's a lot of misunderstanding as to what it is we're doing," the New York Republican said on MSNBC. "And once we get it done, and then we can have the chance to really explain it."
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was famously excoriated by Republicans for her 2010 comments regarding ObamaCare that "we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."
House leaders postponed the floor vote on the bill on Thursday in the face of mounting GOP opposition, and are expected to take up the measure on Friday. While it has the backing of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and President Trump, the bill is facing fierce opposition from conservative and some moderate Republican lawmakers — and united opposition from Democrats.

AN ACTIVE island volcano situated in the Pacific Ocean under one of the world’s busiest flight paths has barely stopped erupting since Christmas and is nearing its 40th explosion in months.

Bogoslof volcano, nestled in the Aleutian Islands about 98km northwest of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, US, has been in the midst of an “active eruption sequence” since mid-December 2016.
It has erupted more than 37 times since then and sent up another ash cloud as recently as Monday. The Alaska Volcano Observatory said the latest eruption lasted 12 minutes.
The observatory said the magnitude of the eruption was being monitored.
Monday’s eruption of the volcano did not immediately prompt an aviation warning for pilots although another explosion the previous week saw authorities issue a warning about ash at elevations that could affect flights.

North Korea conducted a test of a newly developed high-thrust engine at its Sohae rocket launch station and leader Kim Jong-un claimed the successful test was "a new birth" of its rocket industry, the country's official media said on Sunday.

The engine will help the country achieve world-class satellite launch capability, KCNA said, indicating the test was likely of a new type of rocket engine for long-range missiles.

The United States and China have pledged to work together to get the North to take "a different course" and move away from its weapons programmes after US secretary of State Rex Tillerson met his Chinese counterpart on Saturday.

North Korea has conducted five nuclear tests and a series of missile launches, and is believed by experts and government officials to be working to develop nuclear-warhead missiles that can reach the United States.

North Korea reacted nervously to a secretive U.S. aerial bombing drill in South Korea using B-1B strategic bombers.
The official [North] Korean Central News Agency on Thursday said a fleet of B-1B Lancer bombers from Andersen Air Force Base on Guam carried out a nuclear bombing drill practicing for preemptive strikes against major targets in the North.
The planes flew for about an hour over a firing range in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, KCNA said. The South Korean and U.S. militaries have not confirmed the deployment of B-1Bs.
But a source here said two U.S. B-1B bombers took part in a bombing drill over the Korean Peninsula and flew back to their base coinciding with the arrival of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier on Wednesday to join in the ongoing U.S. and South Korean military exercises.
