North Korea on Thursday warned it would finish any war on the Korean Peninsula in three days and turn South Korea into a nuclear wasteland.
The threat comes amid massive annual South Korea-U.S. military exercises.
In an article entitled "A reunification war will be a blitzkrieg" on Thursday, the North Korean propaganda website Uriminzokkiri said, "If a blitzkrieg should occur, it will be finished in just a few days."
"Once given orders, North Korean artillery will rain 120,000 rounds at a time over the South, and its special troops can pulverize South Korean bases of the Air Force, the Navy, radars, and missiles in rear areas," it added.
It also threatened to tear down "concrete barriers" with a single miniaturized nuclear weapon and clear the way for troops to march south.

The US economy pumped out a strong 295,000 net new jobs in February despite some severe weather disruptions and mounting layoffs in the oil industry, the Labor Department reported Friday.
The better-than-expected jobs number sent the unemployment rate down to 5.5 percent, from 5.7 percent previously and the lowest level since May 2008.
Hiring was strong in restaurants, health care, and administrative services, and steady in construction and retail trade.
The oil and gas industry, just beginning to cut back in the face of the crash of crude prices, shed about 8,500 jobs.
The fall in the unemployment rate to 5.5 percent, based on the often volatile household employment survey, reflected as much a surge in the number of dropouts from the labor force as it did new jobs creation.
The overall rate of participation in the workforce -- closely eyed for signs of a sustained pickup in hiring -- was barely changed at 62.8 percent.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested Saturday that the Justice Department’s criminal corruption charges against Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) are political retribution against the New Jersey Democrat for opposing the White House’s negotiations with Iran.
Cruz made the allegations to a throng of reporters jammed into the corner of a tent outside the Iowa Ag Summit in Des Moines without even having been asked about the Menendez criminal charges.
“The announcement this week by the Justice Department that they were bringing charges against Bob Menendez — I will point out that the timing seems awfully coincidental that … in the very week that Bob Menendez showed incredible courage to speak out and call out President Obama for the damage that his policy is doing to our national security … the Justice Department announces they’re moving forward with the criminal prosecution,” Cruz said.
“It raises the suggestion to other Democrats that if you dare part from the Obama White House, that criminal prosecutions will be used potentially as a political weapon against you as well,” he added.
Menendez has been a vocal critic of the White House as the Obama administration has sought to wrap up delicate talks with Iranian leaders over the future of their nuclear program.
The issue came to a head on Capitol Hill last week when Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuked the Obama administration in front of Congress for its strategy on Iran.

The Justice Department is preparing to bring criminal corruption charges against Sen. Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, alleging he used his Senate office to push the business interests of a Democratic donor and friend in exchange for gifts.

People briefed on the case say Attorney General Eric Holder has signed off on prosecutors' request to proceed with charges, CNN first reported. An announcement could come within weeks. Prosecutors are under pressure in part because of the statute of limitation on some of the allegations.
Menendez told reporters Friday night he has "always conducted myself appropriately and in accordance with the law."
He added: "And I am not going anywhere."
Menendez said that because of an ongoing investigation he couldn't answer questions at the news conference, held in Newark.
The case could pose a high-profile test of the Justice Department's ability to prosecute sitting lawmakers, having already spawned a legal battle over whether key evidence the government has gathered is protected by the Constitution's Speech and Debate clause.
The FBI and prosecutors from the Justice Department's public integrity section, have pursued a variety of allegations against Menendez, who has called the probe part of "smear campaign" against him.

The Senate failed on Wednesday to override President Obama’s veto of legislation approving the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, falling five votes short of the two-thirds majority needed in a 62-37 vote.
It’s the first time Congress has voted on whether to override a veto from Obama and could be a sign of things to come, with Republicans in charge of the House and Senate.
Eight Democrats voted with Republicans to override Obama: Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Mark Warner (Va.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Bob Casey Jr. (Pa.), Michael Bennet (Colo.), Tom Carper (Del.) and Jon Tester (Mont.).
Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), who backs the pipeline, missed the vote.

Keystone proponents vowed to continue the fight for the pipeline despite the failure.
“If we don’t win the battle today, we will win the war, because we will attach it to another piece of legislation,” Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), who wrote the bill, said Wednesday.
Hoeven said Republicans are likely to try to attach the legislation to a long-term transportation funding bill. Congress faces a May 31 deadline to approve new transportation funding.
“This is coming back in the form an infrastructure bill, a road bill that we are all voting for,” said Manchin.
Keystone supporters are optimistic that Obama won’t veto a six-year highway bill if it includes Keystone, despite vows by the president to veto any attempt to circumvent the federal review process of the pipeline.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) plans to sign a Wisconsin bill banning abortions after 20 weeks and supports similar legislation at the federal level, he says in an open letter, a shift from his refusal to discuss the matter before his 2014 reelection.

"As the Wisconsin legislature moves forward in the coming session, further protections for mother and child are likely to come to my desk in the form of a bill to prohibit abortions after 20 weeks. "I was raised to believe in the sanctity of life and I will always fight to protect it."

After the summit, the two leaders observed the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing South Korea’s SMART reactors and commercializing its technology in order to jointly enter the global market.
The SMART reactors, designed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, was developed to target the Middle Eastern countries as it generates electric power and also desalinates sea water.
Under the agreement, the two countries are set to conduct a three-year preliminary study by 2018 to review the feasibility of constructing SMART reactors in Saudi Arabia.

With the agreement, the South Korean government expects to win $2 billion worth of nuclear reactor deals in Saudi Arabia and additional orders in the future. If realized, it will be the world’s first case of small- and medium-sized reactors being exported to a foreign country, officials said. The world’s largest producer and exporter of oil plans to build more than 12 18-gigawatt nuclear power plants by 2040 to prepare for growing domestic demand for electricity and to secure new energy sources.

Twitter’s terms of service explicitly ban “direct, specific threats of violence against others”, and the company has followed YouTube in proactively shutting down Isis-related Twitter accounts, with the aid of the UK’s counter-terrorism internet referral unit.
When the company has identified a user as being associated with Isis, it moves aggressively to keep them off the social network. As the Guardian reported previously, “one account run by Rayat al-Tawheed, who speaks on behalf of mainly UK-origin pro-Isis fighters, had a replacement account taken down by Twitter within just a few minutes of its relaunch” in September, after sending just three non-offensive tweets.

The Japanese government has hosted a seminar in New Delhi to promote Shinkansen bullet train technology for India's first high-speed railway line.
Railway officials and experts from both countries attended the event on Saturday.
Japanese Transport State Minister Issei Kitagawa told the gathering that Japan's public and private sector are ready to lend their weight to the project if India adopts Shinkansen technology. He said Japan can offer financial and technological assistance, as well as expertise on how to operate the railway.
East Japan Railway briefed participants on the bullet train's safety technology and operational know-how, accumulated over the past 50 years.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA, said the system would be the most suitable for India because it can handle vast numbers of people. JICA is conducting a joint feasibility study on routes for the planned rail network.
India's Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said he hopes to work with Japan, as its technology and capabilities are tried and true. Afterward, he tried out a simulator to get a taste of what it is like to drive a Shinkansen.
The Indian government plans to lay the first stretch of the railway line in western India, linking Mumbai with Ahmedabad. Competition for the 500-kilometer project is set to intensify as other countries eye the lucrative market, made up of 1.2 billion people. France is one country vying for the project.

A growing number of shrewd couples have found a way to sidestep Sydney’s sky high rents and live almost rent and bill free by house-sitting for strangers with pets.
House-sitting has allowed these couples to save thousands of dollars and live in suburbs they wouldn’t normally be able to afford and some have found it so rewarding that they now house sit on a permanent basis.
Ms Buckley and Mr Cartwright have been house-sitting since late last year and in just a few months have saved $7000, which they are putting towards a home deposit.
“We moved out of the apartment we’d been renting for years and no longer have a permanent address. We just move from house to house, lining up our next house-sitting job as the last one ends,” Ms Buckley said.
“It’s not paid work. The owners expect you to take care of their pets and in return you can stay at their home for free while they are away a few weeks or months.”
The couple has back to back house-sitting jobs lined up until June, by which time they expect to be ready to buy a house of their own.
Couples who have been house-sitting for longer have saved substantially more.
Dave and Ester Muller stayed in strangers’ houses for 18 months, saving roughly $25,000 in rent and $2000 in bills.
The couple now rent a property in Brookvale, but say they’ll resume house-sitting soon.
“We’ll be house-sitting over our next holiday,” Ms Muller said.
Matthew Luxford and Ayjan Mustafa are house-sitting permanently to help save for a home deposit and wedding and estimate they’ve saved $13,000 in the six months they’ve been doing it continuously.

Icy weather and multiple mechanical issues turned an American Airlines flight that was supposed to last for less than an hour into a nine-hour nightmare - before the plane even left the ground.
American Airlines flight 382 was supposed to leave Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport at 1.45pm on Friday for Oklahoma City, but didn't take off until 10.48pm.
The plane was originally grounded because it was being de-iced, a process that took five hours because of heavy snow.
But just as the plane reached the end of the runway and passengers thought they were finally getting in the air, it was revealed there was a mechanical issue with the aircraft.

One of the most popular holiday gifts in China is ginseng, stamped with an unusual guarantee: 100% American.
Few consumers are more faithful to American products than Chinese users of ginseng: the U.S. exported $77.3 million in ginseng roots last year, most of it to Hong Kong, and American ginseng fetches the highest price of any cultivated variety.
The Asian market prizes the American strain for its stronger flavor and high levels of the active ingredient that is said to unlock the root's myriad but unproven health benefits.
The other part of the U.S.' competitive advantage is favorable feng shui. Ginseng grown in North America is said to have a "cool" nature and calming effect, which means it can be taken daily; Asian ginseng is considered "hot" and must be consumed in limited quantities.
American ginseng is cheaper in the U.S. than in China. In the San Gabriel Valley, herbal stores cluster on streets near hotels popular with tourists, their shelves loaded with red boxes covered in quality seals and branded with American flags.
But an American flag is no guarantee of American authenticity, said Tom Hack, international marketing director for the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin, where he says up 95% of the U.S. crop is grown.
In a recent survey at an Asian food expo in Southern California, the board found that less than 12% of ginseng products labeled as Wisconsin ginseng actually came from Wisconsin.
Hack says American ginseng purchased in America is more likely to be Canadian, or....

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to deliver one of the most controversial speeches to a joint session of Congress by a foreign leader ever, and Vice President Biden and a number of top Democrats won’t be attending.
Netanyahu is expected to criticize the White House’s negotiations on Iran's nuclear program in his March 3 speech. While Biden has cited a scheduling conflict, other Democrats are staying away from the speech to protest what they see as an attack on President Obama.
Congressional Democrats are angry that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) invited Netanyahu to speak to Congress without first telling the White House. Obama has said he will not meet with Netanyahu during the visit because it will occur two weeks before Israeli elections are set to take place.
Democrats face a difficult decision on whether to attend the address. Many will want to show support for the White House but will be wary of snubbing the leader of an important U.S. ally.

S KOREA LAUNCHES ITS NEWEST SUBMARINE TO COUNTER THE 70 ACTIVE N KOREA SUBMARINE–NAMED AFTER A FEMALE INDEPENDENCE FIGHTER YU GWAN-SUN
Yu Gwan-sun is the name of the Korean Navy's newest submarine and it's the first vessel to be named after a woman in the modern Navy's 70-year history.
The Korean Navy announced Sunday that the Type 214, 18-hundred-ton attack submarine will be named after Yu, an admired student independence fighter who was a leader in the March 1st Movement against Japan's colonial rule of Korea in 1919.
She died at the age of 18 at the hands of Japanese troops as a result of being tortured in prison.
In a written statement, the Navy said the naming of the vessel comes at a special time, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the country's liberation and the 95th anniversary of Yu's passing in prison.
The diesel-powered submarine will be deployed on anti-vessel and anti-submarine missions.
It is equipped with cruise missiles and torpedoes and will be able to travel to and from Korean to Hawaii on a single tank of fuel.
It has an underwater speed of up to 20 knots.
The submarine is being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering and it will be delivered in November of next year.

The US Navy has been wowing people with electromagnetic railguns, a long-range electrically-powered weapon, in concept and prototype for years now. But the single big obstacle that keeps the railgun off boats remains the same as it ever was: ships can’t generate enough power to fire them.
At the Naval Future Force Science and Technology Expo, Vice Adm. William Hilarides explained that three problems with the railgun remain: room on ships, integrating the new weapons with the old weapons systems, and power—as in, not enough of it.
The railgun doesn’t rely on chemical explosions like more conventional weapons. Instead, the projectile is housed in a electrically conductive metal armature, which connects two parallel, 30-foot rails. A huge 25-megawatt electric pulse is sent down the rails, creating the magnetic fields that shoot the armature and projectile out.
For the Navy, the upsides to an electromagnetic railgun are clear: its range of 100 miles is about double that of conventional high-velocity projectiles, and its projectiles, which go seven times the speed of sound, aren't explosive.
Not only does this make them cheaper and easier to store and transport, but it also eliminates the threat of ordnances lying unexploded long after the war ends.
