The House on Friday approved a bill to lift the federal prohibition on crude oil exports. 

Lawmakers voted 261-159 to end the 40-year-old crude oil export ban, arguing that the measure is necessary to help prop up the American oil industry by allowing its product to hit the world market.

Lifting the ban, supporters argued, will increase the global supply of oil and lead to lower gasoline prices for American consumers. 

“This bill is a market-based bill: willing-buyer, willing-seller,” Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said during floor debate on Friday.

“U.S. oil can go anywhere in the world if we allow it to. That is an economic asset, it is a military, strategic asset.”

Members approved a handful of amendments to the bill, including one noting the role that cutting oil consumption plays in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and another calling for a study on the role expanded exports will have on worldwide emissions.

On his radio show yesterday, Mark ‘The Great One’ Levin said that Republicans “have to grow a set” and go after the imperial president, also known as President Barack Obama. He said this in response to a question from a listener who wondered whether it was time for Republicans to throw around the ‘I-word’: impeachment.

Undoubtedly, the Republican and Democratic elites and their friends in the mainstream media will pretend that Levin is going too far – I can hear them scream now: “It’s insane, he’s a radical, an extremist!” – but that’s not even almost true. There’s a reason the Constitution was set up the way it is, with a procedure to impeach a sitting president: it’s supposed to be used when a president is out of control, has gone rogue, and wipes his behind with the Constitution – the very document he has sworn to uphold. If he doesn’t do it, it’s up to Congress to step in and do whatever is necessary to prevent the country from going down the drain.

President Obama is on the West coast, making appearances in Oregon, Los Angeles and San Francisco. He is expected to arrive in San Diego Saturday night. 

President Obama is scheduled to spend Saturday and Sunday in San Diego, but the reason for the visit remains a bit of a mystery. 

The White House has confirmed Air Force One will land around 8 p.m., at Miramar on Saturday with President Obama on board. 

There are no planned public appearances while he is in San Diego, but rumor has it, he will be staying in the Rancho Santa Fe area. 

On Friday, it appeared to be business as usual at the Rancho Valencia Hotel and Spa, where President Obama is rumored to be staying during his San Diego visit.

An under-the-radar startup funded by billionaire Eric Schmidt has become a major technology vendor for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, underscoring the bonds between Silicon Valley and Democratic politics.

The Groundwork, according to Democratic campaign operatives and technologists, is part of efforts by Schmidt—the executive chairman of Google parent-company Alphabet—to ensure that Clinton has the engineering talent needed to win the election. And it is one of a series of quiet investments by Schmidt that recognize how modern political campaigns are run, with data analytics and digital outreach as vital ingredients that allow candidates to find, court, and turn out critical voter blocs.

But campaigns—lacking stock options and long-term job security—find it hard to attract the elite engineering talent that Facebook, Google, and countless startups rely on. That’s also part of the problem that Schmidt and the Groundwork are helping Clinton’s team to solve.

The Groundwork is one of the Clinton campaign’s biggest vendors, billing it for more than $177,000 in the second quarter of 2015, according to federal filings. Yet many political operatives know little about it. The American left’s contemptuous disregard for laws it doesn’t like is metastasizing. Despite the public outrage that attended the murder of Kate Steinle by Juan Francsico Lopez-Sanchez, a seven-time convicted felon who had been deported five times, the number of illegal alien protection centers known as sanctuary cities has increased. The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports the number of these law-obstructing entities has grown to 340, compared to only 276 identified as recently as last July. CIS’s analysis is based on new information released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that covers the months of January through September of 2014.

It gets worse. As CIS reveals, a whopping 9,295 alien offenders that ICE was seeking to deport were released on the streets of America, including more than 600 people released at least twice. Moreover, 5,947 or 62 percent of these criminal aliens "had significant prior criminal histories or other public safety concerns even before the arrest that led to a detainer,” CIS states. Those histories included 58 percent with prior felony charges or conviction, 37 percent with serious prior misdemeanor charges, and 5 percent with multiple prior misdemeanors. Adding insult to injury, 2,320 of those released were arrested for new crimes committed during the same time frame. 

Unsurprisingly, ICE was not able to re-apprehend the overwhelming majority of offenders released by the sanctuary cities with 6,460, or 69 percent, remaining at large.

Senate Republicans are attempting to do just that. Legislation introduced by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) aims to restrict federal funds and grants to cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officials. The bill would also establish a mandatory five-year sentence for illegal aliens convicted of re-entering the U.S. following a felony conviction, raise the sentence for re-entering the nation twice from two to five years, and establish a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail for immigrants still in America after being removed three or more times.

COMIC CON 2015 IN NEW YORK–THE RETURN OF THE WW ZOMBIES

New York Comic Con opened its doors on Thursday to the requisite flood of costumed comic, sci-fi and fantasy lovers.

Just in time for Halloween, attendees dressed as zombies, super heroes, super villains and more showed up to Manhattan's Javitz Center for four days devoted to all things geek.

One favorite costume at this year's convention was the zombie, with at least one Zombie Alice in Wonderland in the mix. Perennial costumes inspired by Batman and other beloved comics were also there in full effect.

Organizers are hoping for another banner year for the East Coast's largest convention of its kind, which overtook San Diego Comic Con in 2014 when 150,000 attended and beat out the West Coast sister event's yearly 130,000.

A group of Muslim men praying on a beach in broad daylight on Mashes Sands Beach in Wakulla County, Florida, has set the town on edge, with even a local sheriff candidate expressing worry those in clothing considered immodest by Shariah law standards could be in danger.

“I’m raising the question of whether or not a group of military aged Muslim men … are praying on our beach, well label me whatever you want,” said Wakulla County Sheriff candidate Will Dance, WTXL reported. “The reason I brought this up is because my daughters use that beach, my wife uses that beach and gentlemen, under Sharia Law, the cutoff shorts and T-shirts … that my family wears on that beach are considered offensive under Shariah and any Muslim man may carry out what he feels is fit punishment. And I’m sorry but that type of behavior cannot happen here.”

The scene of the praying Muslim men came to light when Wakulla County Commission Chairman Ralph Thomas walked by and snapped a picture, then posted it to his Facebook page with the text: “Walked up on this at Mashes Sands this evening! First time seeing this in Wakulla County.”

Raw Story reported the photo has generated a lot of feedback, including death threats.

Imam Amro told WTKL, however, there was nothing to worry about.

“A sick brain,” he said, referring to those who would criticize and fear the prayer. “Then you will find it in Islam and in Christianity, in any religion there is a sick brain but this is something else.”

Some critics of the attempt to stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s number one abortion provider, are now making the erroneous claim that to do so would be unconstitutional.

However, that claim, as expressed by Drexel law professor David S. Cohen, who says that cutting off federal funding would be an unconstitutional bill of attainder (a legislative act punishing someone without a trial), is nonsense.

Cohen seems unfamiliar with ACORN v. U.S., a 2010 decision by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals that shows, as Ed Whelan (president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center) says, that Cohen “doesn’t know what a bill of attainder is.”

This case raised the exact same issues that Cohen raises in his commentary. ACORN and the ACORN Institute sued after a continuing appropriations resolution and subsequent appropriations laws barred federal funding for ACORN and all of its affiliates, subsidiaries, and allied organizations.

The Navy says it plans to obtain its own fleet of 44 V-22 Ospreys, taking possession of eight a year starting in 2020.

The decision to replace the aging fleet of C-2A Greyhound cargo aircraft with the tilt-rotor hybrid was made in an internal working document drafted earlier this year that laid the groundwork for funding, Navy spokesman Lt. Robert Myers wrote in a statement to Stars and Stripes.

The Navy V-22 Joint Program Office expects to issue a contract for development of a Navy variant in fiscal 2016 with production beginning in fiscal 2018.

Operating as a basic transport aircraft, the Navy variant will be virtually the same as the Marine Corps MV-22, but will add an extended-range fuel system, high-frequency radio and public-address system, Myers said.

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday blasted the U.S. Navy’s Ford-class aircraft carrier program as an acquisition debacle.

Sen. John McCain, a Republican from Arizona who served as a naval aviator during Vietnam, didn’t waste anytime launching into his criticism of the sea service’s $40 billion effort to develop the first three new supercarriers.

“The Ford-class aircraft carrier program is one of our nation’s most complex and most expensive defense acquisition projects,” he said in his opening statement during a hearing on the matter. “It’s also become, unfortunately, one of the most spectacular acquisition debacles in recent memory — and that’s saying something.”

While the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the first ship in the class, is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in May — after more than a dozen years of development — the second ship is five years behind schedule, McCain said. What’s more, the acquisition program is estimated to be more than $6 billion over budget — and questions remain about the reliability of core systems.

The senator criticized the lack of accountability among officials in the Navy, Pentagon and even Congress for the schedule delays and cost overruns. In a clear shot to the builder, Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., McCain said the cost of the program is so out of control that it may force the U.S. to change how it buys such ships in the future.

“We simply cannot afford to pay $12.9 billion for a single ship,” he said. “If these costs are not controlled, we must be willing to pursue alternatives that can deliver similar capabilities to our warfighters on time and on budget.

A FOUR-year-old boy has been kidnapped and beheaded in a horrific human sacrifice to the Hindu Goddess Kali.

The Times of India reported that the little boy was abducted by a villager from his daycare centre in the remote Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh state.

It was when the victims mother went to pick up her son that she realised he wasn’t there and was told he had been taken by 35-year-old Tirumala Rao.

Rao is said to have taken the boy back to his house where he performed the gruesome beheading and collected the boys blood into a bottle so he could offer it to the Hindu Goddess Kali seeking “divine powers”.

When villagers learnt of his alleged crime they tracked down Rao and sought their revenge. Rao was tied to a tree, doused in kerosene and set on fire before village elders rescued him. He was taken to a local hospital with 40 per cent burns to his body.

“We will interrogate Rao once he recovers,” said a local police officer.

Hughes traces her wandering spirit to her parents, Nazarene missionaries who spent time in Chile, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic during her childhood. Along with spreading the gospel, they instilled in her a passion for the outdoors. Hughes remembers her father going on hikes in the mountains, and she would hide in the back of the family car, popping out when he was far enough that there was no other recourse but to take her along.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards took Carly Fiorina to task for her “lie” about a video that purports to show a live-birth abortion at a women’s health center.

“It is extraordinary that someone running for president would lie in that way,” Richards said in an interview on NBC's “Meet the Press” aired on Sunday. “This has been completely discredited by every reputable news source. And yet Carly Fiorina seems to continue to repeat the same lie.”

Richards said the undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress that appear to show Planned Parenthood executives trafficking fetal body parts from abortions are “distortive” and “deceptive.”

She also said the tone of Planned Parenthood executives in the undercover videos does not reflect the “compassionate care that our doctors and clinicians provide to 2.7 million patients.”

Richards said only one percent of Planned Parenthood clinics donate fetal parts from abortions for scientific research, and reimbursements associated with the trade only go toward transfer, storage and legal costs.

Richards said the outrage over the videos, which prompted the House Oversight Committee to subpoena her for a hearing last week, is a pretext for those who really want to restrict abortion rights.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, is upset about the number of immigrants in his state—in his estimation there are far too few of them. In contrast with Republican politicians who want to rein in president Obama’s executive actions on immigration, the governor asked the Obama Administration early last year to use its executive powers to designate 50,000 extra visas to the Detroit metro area for high-skilled immigrants. Citing population loss and the need to jumpstart the Motor City economically (Detroit had just filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy), Snyder—a former CEO for Gateway Computer and head of a venture capitalist firm—called on his state to “embrace immigration.”

Those calls have gotten softer in recent months as the nativist rhetoric emanating from Republican candidates for president has gotten louder. But the issue can’t be ignored entirely. As Europe deals with 4 million Syrian refugees and the Obama administration pledges to admit more of these migrants, the logic of encouraging immigration to Detroit—with its large, welcoming ethnically Middle Eastern population—is only getting stronger. Germany has been quite candid about one of the reasons it is accepting a large portion of the Syrians: it has an aging population and needs younger workers to help pay into the system that will support their baby boomers in retirement. Germany, in effect, has merged humanitarian goals with economic needs. Detroit is well suited to doing the same.

I was walking through downtown Sacramento recently when raindrops started falling. People on the street stopped dead in their tracks, looked up at the sky, and began acting giddy. “What’s that?” I asked a man. “I think it’s something called rain,” he responded. Such is the gallows humor in a state that hasn’t seen substantial rainfall in years.

The obvious lack of rain is the seemingly obvious reason for the state’s lack of sufficient water. Water levels in state reservoirs are falling, officials are cracking down on “excess” water use (lawn-watering, etc.), and voters passed a water bond on the 2014 ballot to help fund more storage. The Capitol crowd is obsessed with the water issue, while local planners use the crisis to clamp down on building permits.

State officials say California’s drought is “one of the most severe droughts on record,” and they warn that even an El Niño rainy season is unlikely to fix the situation. In fact, nothing seems to fix the situation. Californians have slashed their water use by 31 percent during July—well above the 25-percent reduction targeted by the governor. And there’s still not enough water.

But as this series will show, California’s drought is largely a man-made crisis. It is caused by a series of policies—some from the past, many ongoing—which has prioritized environmental demands above the basic provision of water resources to the public. More than half of the state’s water resources simply flow out the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean.

Even now, in the Sierra foothills, state officials empty reservoirs to protect “unimpeded” river flows to benefit small numbers of non-endangered hatchery fish. The California Coastal Commission, the powerful agency with control of development along the shoreline, is holding up a privately planned desalination plant over concerns about its impact on plankton. The environment-friendly commission want to force the developers to build a pumping system that destroys the economics of the plant.
