The hyperactive Pacific Ocean may yet pull an impressive feat.

On Saturday morning, Tropical Depression Five-E formed off the coast of Mexico becoming the fifth tropical cyclone in the Pacific Basin to be active at one time.

Sometime this weekend, you could even see as many as six tropical cyclones spinning in the Pacific Basin at one time. Although it's not unheard of to see multiple storms at the same time, this is impressive on any scale.

Two western Pacific typhoons -- Chan-hom and Nangka -- are currently in the western Pacific Basin. Earlier in the week, Typhoon Linfa was also in play, before moving inland over far southeast China and spinning down.

According to National Hurricane Center specialist Eric Blake, Wednesday, July 8, marked the first time there had been three typhoons simultaneously in the western Pacific Ocean since Oct. 24, 1994.

Colorado State University's Phil Klotzbach adds it was the earliest occurrence on record of three typhoons in the western Pacific, breaking the old record from July 10, 1972.

Japan is interested in joining a NATO missile building consortium that would give Tokyo its first taste of a multinational defense project, a move the U.S. Navy is encouraging because it could pave the way for Japan to lead similar partnerships in Asia, sources said.

The 12-country NATO consortium oversees development and shares the costs of the SeaSparrow missile, an advanced ship-borne weapon designed to destroy anti-ship sea-skimming missiles and attack aircraft. The missile is made by U.S. weapons firms Raytheon and General Dynamics.

In May, Japanese naval officers traveled to a North Atlantic Treaty Organization meeting in The Hague to learn more about the consortium, Japan’s navy and a U.S. source familiar with the trip told Reuters.

Two Japanese sources familiar with the initiative said discussions in Tokyo were at an early stage, although joining the consortium would dovetail with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s more robust security agenda, which included the lifting last year of a decades-old ban on arms exports.

The sources declined to be identified because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

The consortium, established in 1968 by four countries including the United States, is set to develop an upgraded version of the SeaSparrow in the coming years.

Having Japan on board would spread the project’s costs, but Washington also sees a role for Japan in leading multinational military industrial partnerships in Asia at a time when China’s military modernisation and assertiveness is alarming many countries in the region, said the U.S. source.

Such partnerships, which are rare in Asia, would create a network of security ties beyond formal military alliances that mostly involve Washington and its various regional allies.

“We think this project will allow Japan to lay the groundwork for further defence export programmes in the future,” the U.S. source said. “We would welcome this kind of security cooperation activity by Japan in the region.”

The recent killing of 32-year old Kathryn Steinle, allegedly shot by an illegal immigrant who had already been deported five times, has sparked a debate over cities that don't carry out all federal immigration laws.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a presidential contender, as well as Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), have filed an amendment to the Every Child Achieves Act, the Senate's overhaul of the Bush-era No Child Left Behind law, that would redirect funding meant for sanctuary cities to state and local governments that comply with federal law.

Sessions accused officials of “deliberately and openly” disregarding federal immigration laws as an “act of defiance.”

“Congress has an obligation to ensure limited taxpayer dollars are not given to cities and counties who refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement,” he said.

Republican Sen. David Vitter, who is running for governor in Louisiana, has also introduced an amendment cracking down on sanctuary cities to the education bill.

But tying the immigration measure to the education bill, which has so far managed to avoid any political landmines, would likely sink the legislation, which has the strong support of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The conservative push to punish sanctuary cities comes as congressional Democrats have walked a fine line in the wake of the shooting.

Democrats have pressed for more details, but been careful to not directly blame San Francisco’s laws for Steinle’s death, and have shown even less appetite for limiting federal funding to the more than 200 sanctuary cities in the United States.

Republicans have sought to raise pressure on Democrats over the issue.

He has been working on "Stromateis" for three years and there are 13 tracks, including seven rap songs, written and sung by Noh. "The Stromateis," the third in Clement of Alexandria's trilogy of works on Christian life, inspired the title.
Noh was a rapper in his school hip-hop band and held hip-hop concerts, but this is his first album.
Noh, a priest at Cheongbuk Catholic Church in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, said the album expresses human emotions such as love, hope, courage, sorrow and anger to give listeners hopeful messages.

Earlier, the group had cited Mattel’s “Hello Barbie,” a WiFi-connected doll with a built-in microphone.

“Hello Barbie records and transmits children’s conversations to Mattel, where they are analyzed to determine ‘all the child’s likes and dislikes.’ … Kids using ‘Hello Barbie’ won’t only be talking to a doll, they’ll be talking directly to a toy conglomerate whose only interest in them is financial,” EPIC reported.

Samsung’s Internet-connected SmartTV also has a built-in mic that always is on and “routinely intercepts and records the private communications of consumers in their homes.”

“When the voice recognition feature is enabled, everything a user says in front of the Samsung SmartTV is recorded and transmitted over the Internet to a third party regardless whether it is related to the provision of the service.”

A complaint already is pending on that problem, EPIC told Lynch.

Then there’s Microsoft. Its voice and motion recorder called Kinect “is now installed in Xbox video-game consoles.”

“The Kinect sensor tracks and records users’ voice and hand gestures when users say the word ‘Xbox’ followed by various permissible command options.”

The letter explains that to accomplish this, the Xbox console “monitors conversations taking place around it, even when Xbox is turned off.”

Amazon is in the game, too.

“Amazon’s voice-activated computer program, ‘Alexa,’ is becoming increasingly prominent in the consumer marketplace. Amazon has deployed its Alexa ‘always on’ voice recognition software in its own Internet-connected devices, and has made the Alexa voice recognition software available to third-party developers,” the complaint alleges.

And there’s more.

“Next Labs, a company owned by Google, is the manufacturer of Internet-connected thermostats, smoke detectors and security cameras targeted to home owners. The ‘Nest Cam’ is equipped with a microphone, and streams video and sound to a consumer’s smart phone in real time. Nest also records and stores 30 days of the footage that it collects from inside the homes of consumers,” the group said.

Canary Connect security systems access and use similar information, EPIC said.

“By introducing ‘always on’ voice recording into ordinary consumer products such as computers, televisions and toys, companies are listening to consumers in the most private spaces. … It is also genuinely creepy.”

Among the questions that need to be answered, EPIC said, is how such technology works and what is captured. Also, where is the data stored, who has access to it and what laws apply.

The Earth could be headed for a 'mini ice age' researchers have warned.

A new study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles - and says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out.

This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the 'Maunder minimum' - which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London's River Thames to freeze over.

The new model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat.

It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone.

Predictions from the model suggest that solar activity will fall by 60 per cent during the 2030s to conditions last seen during the 'mini ice age' that began in 1645, according to the results presented by Prof Valentina Zharkova at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno.

The model predicts that the pair of waves become increasingly offset during Cycle 25, which peaks in 2022.

During Cycle 26, which covers the decade from 2030-2040, the two waves will become exactly out of synch and this will cause a significant reduction in solar activity.

'In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun,' said Zharkova. 

'Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. 

'We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum''

Reporting about the Islamic State inevitably means watching their videos, but that’s not something I would wish on anyone. The group has created a public theater of death on the Internet ― beheading people, drowning them, burning them, breaking their bones.

This extreme brutality is part of the Islamic State’s brand. It is meant to horrify, and it succeeds. The ultraviolent images serve to intimidate enemies and, to a disturbing extent, motivate young recruits. The jihadist “knights,” as they imagine themselves, have created a distinct form of modern communications warfare.
But such public displays of cruelty are hardly new or unique. People sometimes describe the Islamic State’s actions as “medieval” because they recall the public torture that was once common in the city squares of Britain, France and other European nations.
The Islamic State’s innovation has been to put this sort of mayhem online. The audio is narrated with Koranic phrases and backed by Arabic chants known as “nasheeds.” But the video images evoke a barbarism that transcends religion or culture. The jihadists stand alongside the German Nazis of the Holocaust and Torquemada and his confessor-priests in the Spanish Inquisition. The jihadists probably think they are emulating Americans’ waterboarding of al-Qaida members. That was torture; it wasn’t a grisly public execution.
If you mute the chanting, you can see the fellowship that the Islamic State truly embraces. The group is the latest evidence of a near-universal human capacity to barbarize those seen as “others,” as nonbelievers, and treat them as a different form of life.
Over the past few weeks, the Islamic State has released several especially disturbing videos from Iraq. I’ll describe them by quoting the language used by the SITE Intelligence Group, a private monitoring service that collects and translates jihadist material.
A video from Nineveh province shows the execution of 16 suspected spies “by drowning them in a cage, shooting a car in which they sit with an RPG and immolating them, and beheading them with explosive cord wrapped around their necks.” Another video from Fallujah shows the execution of four alleged homosexuals “by throwing them from the roof of a building.”
The macabre images are celebrated by the Islamic State. The group’s Al-Hayat Media Center last week selected the Nineveh burning, drowning and beheading as No. 1 on its top-10 list of videos from Iraq.
What is the root of these unspeakable actions? Philosophers and anthropologists have studied the question as a way of assessing human nature in its most raw and uncivilized form. Elaine Scarry, a Harvard professor of literature, explored in her 1985 book, “The Body in Pain,” a process she described as “the conversion of real pain into the fiction of power.”
In medieval times, the venue for this show of power was usually a gathering place that was almost literally a theater. The sense of theatricality continues. “It is not accidental,” Scarry writes, “that in the torturers’ idiom, the room in which the brutality occurs was called ‘the production room’ in the Philippines, the ‘cinema room’ in South Vietnam, and the ‘blue-lit stage’ in Chile.”
French philosopher Michel Foucault saw the level of brutality in punishment as an index of the evolution of society. Gruesome public executions were common in Europe until the late 18th century. Slow, painful deaths were often part of the spectacle. The guillotine, which we now regard as cruel, was seen at the time of the French Revolution as humane because it was a “machine for the production of rapid and discreet deaths.”
Foucault described in his 1975 book, “Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison,” the pre-modern penal ethic that now seems to have been embraced by the Islamic State: “Not only must people know (the punishment), they must see with their own eyes. Because they must be made to be afraid; but also because they must be the witnesses, the guarantors.”
European societies became modern and civilized when they replaced these bloody rituals with penal statutes that regarded prisons as “correctional” institutions, or “reformatories,” or “penitentiaries,” which Foucault warned had their own repressive character.

Mark-Viverito in April announced plans to decriminalize public urination along with five other low-level offenses: biking on the sidewalk, public consumption of alcohol, being in a park after dark, failure to obey a park sign and jumping subway turnstiles.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton — who in the early ’90s implemented a “broken windows” approach to policing to dramatically cut crime — is against the new plan, saying such offenses lead to more serious crimes.

Russia is emerging as a new strategic nuclear threat to the United States, a senior member of the House Committee on Armed Services revealed on Wednesday.

“On the nuclear deterrence front, we likely have more cause for concern today than at any point since the Soviet Union collapsed — with a swift kick from the policies of Ronald Reagan,” said Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican and chairman of the subcommittee on strategic forces.

Unlike Germany and Japan, which were converted from enemies to friends after World War II, Russia has not followed a similar model.

“Instead, it gave us [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and his Soviet-style regime,” Mr. Rogers said in a speech to an Air Force Association breakfast.

In the days leading up to July Fourth weekend, Americans were hysterically warned about an ISIS attack in the United States. Congressman Peter King, for example, somberly advised Fox News viewers that "this is the most concerned I've seen the FBI and Homeland Security" since 9/11.
And, once again, the weekend came and went without anyone in America being killed by ISIS, but a lot of people being killed by immigrants -- legal, illegal, second generation and anchor babies. There's no way to know exactly how many Americans were killed July Fourth weekend as a result of the country's immigration policies, because the media don't trust us with the truth.
But the holiday weekend kicked off with the news that an illegal alien from Mexico, Francisco Sanchez, had shot and killed 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle on Wednesday on a San Francisco pier. The most surprising aspect of the crime was that we were told right away that Steinle's suspected killer was an illegal alien. Usually, we only find out that the perp was an immigrant years later when the Spanish translators show up in court.
The day after Steinle was shot to death, the Associated Press reported that members of the Mexican mafia and their associates -- Loribeth Martinez, John Mendoza Jr., Kristopher Sanchez and Veronica Sanchez -- had been arrested for the murder of two people, Traci Lynn Lemley and Jeremy Carrico, in San Antonio, Texas.
Also on Thursday:
-- A fifth suspect in a shooting in Las Vegas, Benjamin Hernandez, was arrested. He joined Yors "Cuete" Garcia-Mier, Nicholas Pedro "Silent" Cortes, Miguel "Trips" Salazar and Jeiszon Valles in jail for the killing.
-- In New Jersey, an illegal alien from Ecuador was indicted for attempting to murder his ex-wife by stabbing her with a steak knife in front of one of their children. (Gosh -- I hope all those kids were born here, so the media can start referring to them as "American citizens" right away.)

-- The bodies of two Americans, Michael Careccia and his wife, Tina, were dug out of the Arizona desert, and Jose Valenzuela, was arrested for their murder.
-- An illegal immigrant from Mexico, Juan Francisco de Luna Vasquez, murdered his wife with a hammer in Laredo, Texas. Vasquez had previously been charged with assault, making terroristic threats, DWI and evading arrest. It just sounds awful to be living in the shadows like that!
That was Thursday. And I didn't even include drunk driving fatalities, a specialty of our Latin American immigrants. (It may not be a good idea to pluck people from the Mayan jungle and put them directly on American roads and highways.)
On Friday, as Americans worried about the imminent ISIS attack:

Factory output at the joint-Korean Kaesong Industrial Complex has soared this year despite cross-border conflict over the minimum wage for North Korean workers.
Output reached US$186 million for the first four months of this year, up about 25 percent on-year from $148 million, the Unification Ministry said Thursday.
Monthly output rose some 19 percent to 43 percent on-year, with $46.5 million in January, $38.74 million in February, $51.07 million in March, and $49.95 million in April.
Even as tension was mounting in March and April over a nominal hike of wages, most of which are pocketed by the North Korean regime, output rose about 20 percent.
There are now some 55,000 South and North Korean staff in the industrial park, up about 2,000 from a year ago.
Annual output rose from $14.91 million in 2005 to $470 million in 2014.
The accumulated output stood at $2.85 billion as of the end of April this year. The number of South Korean businesses operating there increased from 18 in 2005 to 124.

But are they really a good idea?
Car companies answer with an emphatic yes. They say outsized dashboard displays that behave more like smart phones will boost revenue and attract buyers. And they also insist the new screens will make driving less dangerous, because of well-integrated voice controls and large touch screens that will keep drivers from fumbling with more dangerous mobile phones.
But the increasingly elaborate screens have also sparked a broad debate about how much technology is appropriate in a car.
“I think they (the screens) raise serious public safety questions,” said Joe Simitian, the former California lawmaker who spearheaded the state’s laws on phone use while driving. “From a legislative standpoint, this is going to be something legislators struggle with for years to come.”
“You can’t be looking at a screen and be looking at the road at the same time,” said David Strayer, a professor of cognition and neural science at the University of Utah, who has written several studies on distracted driving. The screens “are enabling activities that take your eyes off the road for longer than most safety advocates would say is safe.”
His research shows that reading the average text message-a function some of the screens support-takes four seconds, far longer than what he considers safe.
But for automakers and their customers, the souped-up screens are proving irresistible.

North Korea used civilian passenger planes to transport hard currency seized from expat laborers in the Middle East following the closure of its overseas banks for violating international law.
Sources said since prosecutors in Kuwait ordered the closure of the local branch of North Korea's Trade Bank on charges of money laundering and illicit transfers, the North has used twice-monthly Air Koryo flights to Kuwait to ferry seized wages back to the North.
There are 50,000 to 60,000 North Korean laborers in 16 countries. In Kuwait, there have been some 4,000 since 1995, toiling at construction sites and receiving around W1 million a month (US$1=W1,123), of which the regime confiscates 70 to 80 percent.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) have released a video purportedly showing the execution of dozens of Syrian government soldiers in the ancient ruins of Palmyra.

The footage shows 25 men kneeling on the stage of the site's historic Roman theatre, their hands tied behind their backs.

With ritualistic precision, the same numbers of executioners then step out in unison, each taking up position behind one of the condemned. A large black Isil flag is draped over the columns behind them.

Wearing matching long brown robes and brown bandannas the executioners appear to be boys or young teenagers – few look old enough to grow a beard.

Footage filmed from cameras trained on the soldiers' faces show that the men have been beaten.

Then the child jihadists transform the world-class tourist attraction into a killing ground.

Nine states sued the Obama administration Tuesday over its rule asserting power over small waterways like streams and wetlands, bringing the total number of states challenging the regulation to 27.

The lawsuit filed in a Savannah, Ga., federal court by state leaders in South Carolina and other states follows a trio of cases filed Monday by 18 other states.

The states in Tuesday’s lawsuit argue, similarly to those in the other cases, that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) violated the Clean Water Act, other laws and Supreme Court decisions when it declared that tributaries and other small waters are subject to federal jurisdiction and pollution control laws.

“The results of this rule will carry a tremendous cost to our state, our economy, and our families,” South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said in a Tuesday statement.

“The EPA’s proposed expansion would bring many roadside ditches, small ponds on family farms, water features on golf courses, and storm water systems under extremely burdensome federal regulation,” he said.

The states joining South Carolina are West Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Utah and Wisconsin.

The EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers announced the final rule last month, with the goal of better clarifying which small water bodies like ponds, headwater and wetlands fall under federal power, a designation that could require permits for anything that harms or pollutes the water.

While the Clean Water Act gives federal officials power over navigable waters, the government has long recognized that a certain amount of upstream water must also be covered to protect the larger features.

The rule, dubbed “waters of the United States,” was published Monday in the Federal Register, a step that both made it official and opened it up for litigation.

Since they’re challenging the same regulation, the federal court system is likely to combine all four lawsuits into one.

Monday’s lawsuits came from Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Health insurance companies around the country are seeking rate increases of 20 percent to 40 percent or more, saying their new customers under the Affordable Care Act turned out to be sicker than expected. Federal officials say they are determined to see that the requests are scaled back.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans — market leaders in many states — are seeking rate increases that average 23 percent in Illinois, 25 percent in North Carolina, 31 percent in Oklahoma, 36 percent in Tennessee and 54 percent in Minnesota, according to documents posted online by the federal government and state insurance commissioners and interviews with insurance executives.

The Oregon insurance commissioner, Laura N. Cali, has just approved 2016 rate increases for companies that cover more than 220,000 people. Japan's Advanced Technology Demonstrator-X (ATD-X) fighter test platform will not fly until at least late 2015 due to issues with the software that controls automatic engine restarts, according to officials at the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The first test flight was scheduled to take placebefore the end of the current financial year in March, but the problems affecting the engine control unit (ECU) will require several months to resolve, the officials said.

The ECU is a critical safety and power management system that automatically reactivates an engine if it shuts down in flight.

MoD officials said that the current issue is a software fault. Rather than using existing off-the-shelf systems, much of the technology installed in the ATD-X was developed especially for the project and so solutions need to be developed from scratch, contributing to the current delay.

MoD officials expect work on the ECU to take several months, but due to the experimental nature of the work required the true scale of the delay is unknown.

ATD-X's main contractor, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), is building a single test aircraft at its Komaki Minami plant in Aichi Prefecture that uses a smaller planform than a potential production model.

With the San Francisco woman murdered by one of Barack Obama’s “new Americans,” we should ask: how much innocent blood will be spilled on the altar of the Left’s “fundamental transformation” of America? While callow and cowardly corporations are severing ties with Donald Trump because he dared speak a truth in an age of lies, the reality of far too many of the illegals invading our country is this:

They are just committing the crimes Americans won’t commit.

Some will say, of course, that Americans sometimes do such evil as well. But it’s also true that Americans do sometimes take the menial jobs so often performed by illegals, yet we nonetheless hear the statement, “They’re just doing the jobs Americans won’t do.” So since we’re indulging rhetoric and generalizations here, turnaround is fair play.

Will people ever rise up and make that sickening agenda-facilitating suppression of truth known as political correctness exactly what it should be: a recognized vile heresy, to be stamped out with extreme prejudice? I recently heard someone take exception to the term “illegals,” making that now stale point that “no one is illegal” (cue the tiny violin). This person argued that bank robbers break the law as well, but we don’t brand them “illegals.” Point taken. We call bank robbers “criminals.”

And if the Left wants to apply the same descriptive to illegal aliens, it works for me.

(Or would “undocumented criminals” be preferable?)

It would be wholly accurate, too. Generally lost in our self-flagellating, suicidal pander-fest is that every illegal migrant is a criminal by definition. This is why the lying Left — ever engaging in language manipulation — dislikes the word “illegal”: accurate terminology relates the truth of a matter. This is intolerable when your agenda is completely contrary to Truth.

An even better adjective for illegals, however, is “invaders.” And Francisco Sanchez, the vile murderer of the San Francisco woman, Kathryn Steinle, certainly fits the bill. He repeatedly invaded our country for the purposes of destruction, dealing drugs and being convicted of felonies seven times until he finally took a life. Yet he is not the only one culpable in his malevolent act.

What do you call government officials who not only abdicate their responsibility to halt an invasion, but actually aid and abet it? Quislings? Traitors? Leftists? But I repeat myself.

The proportion of North Korean defectors here who are female has steadily risen in recent years, topping 80 percent for the first time this year, government data showed Sunday, pointing to lighter surveillance of women than men amid a perceived tightening of overall border controls.
Of the 535 people who fled the North between January and May this year, 444 were women, accounting for nearly 83 percent, according to statistics from the Unification Ministry.
The figures marked the highest portion of women yet, though they were tentatively compiled while Seoul’s background checks continue on the newcomers and may fluctuate toward the end of the year, the ministry noted.
Albeit with slight swings, the annual ratios have hovered in their 70s since 2006, reaching 73.1 percent in 2012, 75.6 percent in 2013 and 78.2 percent in 2014.
“The proportion of women stood at about 7 percent before 1989 but has since showed an upward drift, amounting to 35 percent in 1997 and 42 percent in 2000, and in 2002 exceeded that of men,” the ministry said on its official website.

Taiwan marched out thousands of troops and displayed its most modern military hardware Saturday to spotlight an old but often forgotten claim that its forces, not the Chinese Communists, led the campaign that routed imperial Japan from China 70 years ago.

The military staged an unusually large two-hour parade of homegrown missiles, Apache attack helicopters and a mountain bike team designed for stealth missions, followed by awards for aged World War II veterans in their attire from the 1940s.

China and Taiwan split during civil war in 1949 and today's China — more militarily and economically powerful than Taiwan — claims that the Chinese Communists had directed the resistance against the Japanese. Mainland officials have argued that the Communists' advice and fighting skills were crucial to the victory.

Taiwan's Nationalist Party ruled all of China when Japan invaded parts of the country from 1931, forming a central stage of the Asian World War II theater. In one attack, the Japanese massacred between 40,000 and 300,000 Chinese in what has become known as the Nanjing Massacre.

Officials in Taiwan say that the Communist forces had a minor role in fighting the Japanese alongside the Republic of China troops, and that during China's eight-year resistance against Japan they were mainly building up their own ranks and fighting a civil war they would eventually win.

"The war of resistance was led by the Republic of China and Chairman Chiang Kai-shek was the force behind it," Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou said in a speech after the parade, referring to the old Nationalist government's strongman. "No one is allowed to distort that."

After losing the civil war, the Nationalists rebased in Taiwan in the late 1940s, and their constitutional Republic of China government has governed the western Pacific island since then.

The 5th Generation Aircraft era was ushered in with the formal adoption of the USAF Lockheed F-22 Raptor air superiority platform in 2005.

The Fifth Generation Fighter is the current standard naming convention for "next-generation" fighter aircraft. While there are no truly defined, widely-accepted features of this breed, the aircraft considered for the title often utilize proven features of Fourth Generation Fighter designs and introduce all-new levels of performance, stealth profiles and advanced avionics with integrated all-digital flight systems. Primary armament is held in an internal internal bay to further preserve the airframe's radar signature. Several Fifth Generation Fighters are in development including the American Lockheed F-35 Lightning II and the Russian T-50 PAK-FA while others are in discussion. The United States Air Force's Lockheed F-22 Raptor, introduced in 2005, remains the only fully-operational Fifth Generation Fighter to date.
