Christianity is experiencing an unprecedented boom on the African continent and now accounts for more than half of Africa’s total population, while Christian affiliation and practice continue to ebb in Europe, signaling a major demographic shift in global Christianity.
An article in the Christmas issue of the Economist lays out the sobering statistics of European Christianity, while holding up the remarkable growth of the Christian faith among Africans.Christianity is experiencing more rapid growth in Africa than anywhere else on the planet, including Asia and Latin America. In 1910 less than 10% of Africans identified as Christians, whereas today 55% of the population is Christian. And while in 2015 Europe still has the largest Christian population of any continent at just over 575 million, Africa is projected to overtake it by 2025.
The growth of Christianity in Africa averages 2.78% each year, while Europe’s growth rate languishes at 0.16%, meaning that while Africa becomes more and more Christian, Europe becomes less so.
The striking growth of Christianity in Africa is not merely a question of religious affiliation, but is reflected in actual religious belief and practice. The Economist reports that 90% of self-identified Christians attend church regularly across the five sub-Saharan African countries for which data are available (Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe), making African Christians the most devout in the world.
Religious practice among European Christians, on the other hand, is significantly lower, and falling year by year. In France and Sweden, only one in ten adult Christians attend church services at least once a month.
In traditionally Catholic Ireland, nearly 90% of adult Catholics attended Mass every week in 1984, but by 2011 the number had plummeted to just 18%.
In Germany, more than 400 Roman Catholic churches and more than 100 Protestant churches have been shut down since 2000, with another 700 Roman Catholic churches scheduled for closing over the next several years. Religious practice among Germans is falling year by year and just 12.3% of Catholics regularly attend Church services, according to the German conference of bishops.
Christianity’s glacial growth in Europe combined with massive immigration of non-Christians is resulting in a steady decrease in the percentage of the continent identifying as Christian. Only about a third of Europeans who call themselves Christian say they go to church services once a month or so.

SK E&S, for example, has selected Hyundai Heavy Industries as preferred bidder for two or three LNG carriers it will formally award early next year. The exact number of vessels and the amount of the contract have yet to be fixed, but industry watchers estimate the deal to be between 450 billion won and 700 billion won.
India's state-run gas company plans to order nine LNG tankers, worth about $1.8 billion. If international economic sanctions on Iran are lifted early next year, the world's second-largest natural gas producer is highly likely to place orders for LNG carriers. In addition, the United States will need 19 very large gas tankers, worth at least 4 trillion won, to export about 15 million tons of shale gas produced in Louisiana, the sources said.

China's
parliament passed a controversial new anti-terrorism law on Sunday that
requires technology firms to hand over sensitive information such as
encryption keys to the government and allows the military to venture
overseas on counter-terror operations.
Chinese
officials say their country faces a growing threat from militants and
separatists, especially in its unruly Western region of Xinjiang, where
hundreds have died in violence in the past few years.
The
law has attracted deep concern in Western capitals, not only because of
worries it could violate human rights such as freedom of speech, but
because of the cyber provisions. U.S. President Barack Obama has said
that he had raised concerns about the law directly with Chinese
President Xi Jinping.
Speaking
after China's largely rubber-stamp parliament passed the law, Li
Shouwei, deputy head of the parliament's criminal law division under the
legislative affairs committee, said China was simply doing what other
Western nations already do in asking technology firms to help fight
terror.
"This
rule accords with the actual work need of fighting terrorism and is
basically the same as what other major countries in the world do," Li
told reporters.
This
will not affect the normal operation of tech companies and they have
nothing to fear in terms of having "backdoors" installed or losing
intellectual property rights, he added.
Officials
in Washington have argued the law, combined with new draft banking and
insurance rules and a slew of anti-trust investigations, amounts to
unfair regulatory pressure targeting foreign companies.
China's
national security law adopted in July requires all key network
infrastructure and information systems to be "secure and controllable".
The
anti-terrorism law also permits the People's Liberation Army to get
involved in anti-terrorism operations overseas, though experts have said
China faces big practical and diplomatic problems if it ever wants to
do this.

British troops are being weakened in their fight against terrorists because they fear human rights lawyers will take them to court, the Defence Secretary has warned.
Michael Fallon attacked “ambulance-chasing law firms” that have brought
thousands of cases against the Ministry of Defence over the conduct of
British forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He said soldiers were worried that their actions could land them in
court defending compensation claims brought by enemy fighters they
capture or relations of those killed.
“We don’t need these ambulance-chasing British law firms,” he told The Sunday Telegraph. “It is not only extremely expensive but it inhibits the operational effectiveness of our troops because they start to worry about whether they will end up in a court or not.”

My hopes in the president were misplaced.
First off, it's telling that the White House hasn't commented on the B-52 report. This is the administration's go-to response for a story they want to go away (if the administration likes the story, we get leaks and Hollywood movies).
But the Pentagon's response has been equally telling. Instead of broadcasting that America will reject China's claims in the East China and South China Seas, and instead of asserting that American forces will of course operate in international territory, the Pentagon groveled before China, offering apologies. The Journal reports that the B-52 aircrew is being investigated and that the Pentagon is hinting that "bad weather" led the crew to make a mistake. It's Scapegoating 101.
Unfortunately, this supplication to China is also Strategic Incompetence 101. First, as evidenced by this situation, if the U.S. is unwilling to operate over international waters without qualification, those waters become Chinese. This yields the strategic initiative to China. It also contradicts the B-52 deployment in the first place. Assuming that the B-52s were flown from Guam (the closest squadron deployment), this must have been a mission focused on China. In part, that's because B-52s have advanced oceanic-surveillance capabilities. But with Guam a significant distance away from the South China Sea -- 2,200 miles -- this mission clearly wasn't for flight hours.
Regardless, this incident encapsulates President Obama's foreign-policy absurdity. After all, while China carves its empire, Obama continues to claim that his China policy is successful. This success is proven, he says, by China's pledge to try to cap its carbon emissions by 2030. It's an unbinding, unenforceable pledge from a socialist kleptocracy.
Nevertheless, the true absurdity of Obama's delusion is clear only in the light of history. Imagine if President Truman had allowed Stalin to seize Berlin in 1948 in return for Stalin's pledge to try to hold free elections in 1964. On the contrary, consider how President Truman actually dealt with Stalin during the 1948–1949 Berlin crisis (in which Stalin blockaded Berlin's western zones). Vastly outgunning U.S. forces in Germany, the Soviets threatened war. But when the question arose of whether or not the United States was going to stay in Berlin, Truman declared: "No discussion . . . we are going to stay -- period." He launched the Berlin airlift and put his faith in American deterrent power and American values. And he won the day.

Christianity is facing "elimination" in the

Archbishop of Cantebury has warned.
The Most Reverend Justin Welby used his Christmas Day sermon
at Canterbury Cathedral to say IS is "igniting a trail of fear,

The U.S. petroleum industry hasn’t seen this many bankruptcies in one quarter since the Great Recession, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas says, counting nine Chapter 11 court filings in the year’s final three-month period. And that’s just a third of the year’s domestic casualty count.
The Dallas Fed also estimates in a new report on Thursday the nation has lost about 70,000 oil and gas jobs since October 2014, a 14.5 percent drop in the 14 months after the domestic shale drilling boom that drew thousands to Houston’s oil hub began a steep decline.
But the sacrifice of dozens of U.S. oil producers, thousands of oil field workers and more than 1,200 drilling rigs still hasn’t stalled U.S. crude production enough to shrink the global oil glut that has sent oil prices below $40 a barrel.
Global crude supplies, the Fed said, could outpace demand by 600,000 barrels a day, and the world’s crude storage tanks may not start to decline until 2017.
That’s in part because increased production from Iran has come on earlier than anticipated and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is expected to continue pumping crude at current levels.
Iran, which expects western sanctions on its oil exports to be eased next year, has said it wants to pump an additional 500,000 barrels a day. Goldman Sachs believes that OPEC, which includes Iran, will boost its daily production in 2016 by 640,000 barrels. But that’s a conservative estimate that assumes Iran will only put out 285,000 barrels a day next year.

“I wouldn’t get our brilliant people (together) and ask them to do it,” he said. “I would require them to do it.”
Savage called for a “Selective Selective Service” that “targets IT workers who can go to work for the government as hackers to take down ISIS websites, al-Qaida websites.”
“And then we need programmers to program positive information for the youth of America, to make them love the country again and want to help the country again,” he said.
“And then you’re going to be involved in a cyber war that you might win.”

From December 18, life-size nativity scenes, handcrafted in Italy, will be set up in Bethlehem and Jerusalem for the first time. In Bethlehem, the scene will be built in the cloister of St. Catherine’s Basilica. In Jerusalem, there will be two exhibitions: in the Latin Patriarchate and in the Custody of the Holy Land.
The art of making these life-size nativity scenes is a centuries old tradition, which can be traced to the early 1700s in the Trentino region of Italy. The tradition has been handed down through the generations and has become a family and town ritual. The figures of the Holy Family and the shepherds are carved out of wood.

A Chinese submarine conducted a simulated missile attack on the USS
Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier near Japan in October, a report said Tuesday.
Citing American military sources, online news service the Washington Free Beacon said the submarine shadowed the carrier and was detected behaving as if about to fire a cruise missile from a torpedo tube.
It said the U.S. Navy has briefed congressional staff on the matter, adding that Washington has kept the incident secret to avoid inflaming relations with Beijing.
"We have nothing to provide," Cmdr. Bill Clinton, the spokesman for the U.S. 7th Fleet, told The Japan Times. The 7th Fleet is based in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Clinton referred questions on the matter to the office of the United States Secretary of Defense in Washington. It is unusual for U.S. military spokespeople to deflect questions of this nature to the top of the command chain.

The US Navy has already deployed a laser weapon at sea aboard the USS Ponce, capable of a range of attacks against small boats, drones, and light aircraft posing a threat, by blinding sensors or operators or heating elements to make them fail or explode.
Other laser weapons are also being tested by the Office of Naval Research for use on helicopters to protect against man-portable anti aircraft missiles.
Directed-energy weapons pods could be affixed to aircraft to destroy or disable incoming missiles, drones, and even enemy aircraft at a much lower 'cost per shot' than missiles or even guns, Carlisle suggested.
The front runner for the Air Force system is believed to be called the High-Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System (HELLADS), and will create a laser small enough to be mounted on a plane, and is expected to be ready for use by 2020.
General Atomics, the firm making, it, has revealed a full scale system is already under construction following tests.

"In the context of the Fed we've removed some uncertainty. There's still some uncertainty about earnings going forward and you're experiencing that with some volatility in market pricing," said Timothy Hopper, chief economist at TIAA-CREF.
The Dow Jones industrial average had its worst day since Sept. 1, closing nearly 370 points lower as selling accelerated into the close. Nearly all constituents declined, with Boeing and Goldman Sachs contributing the most to losses. Disney turned lower to end the day off nearly 4 percent after BTIG downgraded the stock to "sell" from "neutral."

A Washington watchdog group says it has identified a second official in the
Obama administration whose family history includes an investigation by the
federal government into communist activities.
Judicial Watch posted a report Friday that said Jeh Johnson, the secretary of Homeland Security, confirmed in a recent news conference that his grandfather appeared before the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1940s.
Judicial Watch said the FBI previously disclosed that “the dad, maternal grandpa and father-in-law of President Obama’s trusted senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett, were hardcore Communists under investigation by the U.S. government.”
Johnson’s family history is relevant, Judicial Watch said, “because, although Islamic terrorists keep attacking America, the cabinet official responsible for the nation’s safety has vowed to protect Muslims from the type of persecution he says his grandpa suffered under McCarthyism in the 1940s.”
Judicial Watch, which focuses on uncovering government corruption, said Johnson’s admission came at a recent event at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque attended by Judicial Watch representatives.
Johnson compared the discrimination Muslims face now, in a climate of “fear, suspicions and prejudice,” to the 1940s and 1950s, when members of Congress charged that communists had infiltrated the U.S. government while it was in a Cold War with the Soviet Union and its allies.
“In 1949, during the McCarthy era, my own grandfather was called upon to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee, to deny he was a member of the Communist Party and defend the patriotism of African Americans,” Johnson said at the time.
“Today his grandson is responsible for the homeland security of this entire nation.”
Judicial Watch said mosque leaders tried to keep Judicial Watch from attending the event, but the Department of Homeland Security “reluctantly intervened” after multiple appeals.
Initially, the DHS acting assistant secretary for public affairs, Todd Breasseale, told JW his agency “does not have the authority to force any private entity to accommodate those whom they do not wish to accommodate.”
But the watchdog group noted the news conference was widely promoted and featured a cabinet secretary.
The report said Johnson’s communist connection “had not previously been revealed and it certainly wasn’t mentioned during Senate confirmation hearings before he took over the massive agency created after 9/11 to keep the nation safe.”
“This was a bombshell, according to an editorial published in a Los Angeles-based newspaper dedicated to covering business, finance and economics. ‘Johnson’s family history is most troubling,’ the editorial reads. ‘As Muslim terrorism hits closer and closer to home, our Homeland Security chief views the war on Islamic terrorism as another Red scare, where Muslim terrorist suspects are Red-baited like his grandfather. No wonder this administration isn’t interested in monitoring radical Muslims for terrorist connections.’”
The report said FBI files revealed Jarrett’s father, pathologist James Bowman, “had extensive ties to Communist associations and individuals.”
He also was “a member of a Communist-sympathizing group called the Association of Internes and Medical Students. After his discharge from the Army Medical Corps in 1955, Bowman moved to Iran to work, the FBI records show.”
Jarrett’s father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, “was also another big-time Chicago Communist,” the report said.

In our last article we predicted that thousands of hardened ISIS fighters, blending among refugees, would march into Europe undetected. We also advised our readers that this would spread distrust between European powers and borders would go back up in an attempt to stem the invasion, at the cost of slowing down European economies. We were right on all counts.
On November 13th 2015, ISIS terrorists committed multiple suicide attacks in Paris, which formed the deadliest terrorist atrocity on French soil since WW2. They caused France to close borders and declare a state of emergency.
There is a strange connection between these tragic events and the politics of petroleum. On the one hand, Saudi-funded fundamentalism has, within a few decades, balkanized Europe into a net supplier of jihadi fighters. On the other hand, a proxy war in Syria over a gas pipeline created the refugee crisis. These are both dire issues which few governments dare to face effectively, yet these issues will shape our world for centuries to come.

Volokh noted Posner’s opinion, and said, “I would add that, in Kleindienst v. Mandel (1972), the Supreme Court applied the ‘plenary power doctrine’ to the exclusion of people based on their political beliefs, despite the Free Speech Clause. The cases that Posner is referring to, together with Kleindienst, suggest that the exclusion of people based on their religious beliefs is likewise constitutional.”
He noted that, “at this point, the precedents counsel in favor of the constitutionality of such a rule.”
Posner pointed out there even is a precedent for Trump’s idea.
“In 1891, Congress passed a statute that made inadmissible people who practice polygamy (directed, at the time, at Mormons), and in 1907 extended this ban to people who ‘who admit their belief in the practice of polygamy.’ While Congress later repealed the latter provision (the former seems to be still on the books), no court – as far I know – ruled it unconstitutional.”
He said it’s clear, “The plenary power doctrine is universally loathed by scholars and some have argued that it is effectively a dead letter. But any honest answer to a journalist’s question about whether Trump’s plan to ban Muslim immigration is unconstitutional should start with the plenary powers doctrine, and observe that it would be an uphill battle to persuade the Supreme Court to abandon a century of precedent.”
He said it’s unfortunate that scholars – “who certainly know better” – are telling journalists who don’t like Trump’s ideas what they want to hear.
“Not everything that is stupid or offensive is unconstitutional,” he said.

Serving officers in terrorist hotspots including London and Birmingham said that forces are becoming increasingly nervy over the rising threat of Islamic State (ISIS) inspired attacks, with some telling staff not to wear their uniforms in their OWN patrol cars.
One officer in London said the firebrand presidential hopeful was “pointing out something plainly obvious” whilst another in Lancashire said the police have to ask local Muslim leaders for PERMISSION before sending patrols into their communities.
Their shocking testimonies are in stark contrast to the official responses from politicians and the Metropolitan Police, who have rounded on Mr Trump’s controversial claims.
The Republican frontrunner provoked fury across the globe on Monday when he said that all Muslims should be banned from entering America to combat terrorism.
During a tub thumping speech to party activists he also took a swipe at Britain, saying: “We have places in London and other places that are so radicalised that police are afraid for their own lives.”
His comments were widely derided by British politicians including David Cameron, who called them “divisive, unhelpful and quite simply wrong”.
The Metropolitan Police also issued a withering statement saying Mr Trump “could not be more wrong” whilst London Mayor Boris Johnson said his claims were “utter nonsense”.

Since October 10, ISIS and its sympathizers around the world have killed at least 525 people in six attacks in six countries outside its so-called caliphate. American counterterrorism officials say that of the six attacks, three were directed by ISIS from its territory in Syria and Iraq and another two were so-called "announcement" attacks -- local ISIS elements revealing their existence in dramatic fashion. Though one of the two people who carried out the final attack, the massacre in San Bernandino, swore allegiance to ISIS, officials are still determining the extent of any relationship she and her husband might have had with the terror group.

SKYMALL ONCE OUT OF THE AIRLINE MERCHANDIZE CATALOG IS BACK WITH UNITED AIRLINES THIS TIME AROUND
Skymall is back. For now.
The Phoenix-based in-flight catalog that was known for selling quirky items such as hoodies for dogs and garden Yetis filed for bankruptcy this year, a victim of a digital age that made ordering from a catalog obsolete.
In April, New Jersey-based C&A Marketing purchased Skymall out of bankruptcy protection with plans to revive the business.
The first step began in October when Skymall paid to be included as an insert in United Airlines' in-flight magazine, Hemispheres. It will continue to be in the magazine through the end of the year.
Representatives for C&A Marketing said United is the only airline to carry Skymall so far but the catalog also appears in Amtrak's Arrive magazine around Boston, New York and Washington.

A young man who came to Minnesota as a “refugee” from Somalia has been linked to Syed Farook, the shooter who, along with his jihadist wife, killed 14 Americans in San Bernardino less than a week ago.
Fox News contributor Rod Wheeler provided a key piece of information about the case, linking the San Bernardino shooters to Mohammad Hassan, a known terrorist recruiter who has been on the FBI radar screen for at least seven years.
What Fox did not report, however, is how Hassan ended up in the United States.
He came into the U.S. as a refugee from Somalia and became an American citizen.

As WND reported in May, Hassan also helped radicalize Elton Simpson, one of the two jihadists who tried to storm into a Prophet Muhammad drawing contest in Garland, Texas, on May 4. Their plans to kill the participants and behead free-speech activist Pamela Geller were foiled by an off-duty cop who engaged them in a gun battle before they could enter the auditorium where Geller was holding the art contest.
“One of the two shooters in last week’s terrorist attack on a free-speech event in Garland, Texas, Elton Simpson, was reportedly radicalized over the Internet by former Somali refugee Mohammad Hassan,” WND reported on May 11. “The radical Islamist had lived in Minnesota before traveling to the Middle East to join ISIS, but he continues to recruit new ISIS fighters in America, largely through social media. Hassan used the Twitter handle ‘Miski.’”
It was “Miski” who reportedly called for the Garland attack 10 days prior to it being carried out by Simpson and his Pakistani accomplice.
He tweeted: “The brothers from the Charlie Hebdo attack did their part. It’s time for the brothers in the #us to do their part.”
That tweet was followed by a link to Geller’s event in Garland, Texas.
Hassan left Minnesota for Somalia seven years ago to fight for Al Shabaab, an al-Qaida-linked terrorist organization in Somalia. He later joined up with ISIS but holds an American passport and could return to the U.S. at any time.
Law enforcement conducting the raid at Syed Farook’s apartment in Redlands, California, found evidence tying Farook to Hassan, according to Wheeler’s report for Fox.
Hasson had lived in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota, which is home to the largest Somali refugee community in the United States. He is one of at least 50 Somali refugees or sons of refugees who have left the U.S. since 2007 to join the ranks of ISIS, al-Shabab or other foreign terrorist groups.
These Somali refugees have American passports and could return to the U.S. as battle-hardened terrorists.
Yet, the U.S. government under President Barack Obama continues to flood the U.S. with 500 to 700 new Somali refugees every month — 6,000 to 8,000 a year. A total of about 110,000 Somali refugees have been resettled in the U.S. since 1991.
“With all the talk in Congress and the media about Syrian refugees, we don’t hear anything about Somali refugees and they have one of the worst records of not assimilating and being accomplices to terrorist acts,” said Ann Corcoran, refugee watchdog who blogs for Refugee Resettlement Watch.

This is the time of year when the streets of the Philippines are filled with Christmas decorations. They are an indispensable part of the season in a place where Catholics make up a majority of the population. Many of the decorations are made by hand, by traditional craftsmen.
Lanterns dot towns across the country. They are called "parol", and symbolize the hope and goodwill of the people. They are usually star-shaped, evoking the Star of Bethlehem said to light the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
North of Manila lies a city dubbed the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines". San Fernando is an important producer of the seasonal lanterns, and has been making them for a century. It is believed the origins of the parol are in lanterns made to light the way to Christmas services.
Eric Quiwa is a skilled craftsman with almost 30 years of experience. He is the fifth generation of a parol-making family. His workshop produces traditional designs, with flowers and stars. He also adds colorful patterns so the lanterns are attractive in the daytime.

The deadly shooting in San Bernardino happened in a state with some of the toughest gun laws in the United States: California bars assault weapons, blocks the sale of large-capacity magazines and requires universal background checks for all gun purchases.
Authorities say they believe suspected gunman Syed Rizwan Farook and wife Tashfeen Malik had legally obtained two handguns and that two rifles were also legally purchased in California. Federal officials say the attackers had large-capacity magazines that violate California law in their SUV.
Since the attack Wednesday at a social service center in Southern California, the state's strict laws and the apparent legal purchase of the weapons have set off a debate over the effectiveness of gun measures and whether getting tougher would help prevent more violence.
“Strong gun laws do prevent gun deaths. Not every law can prevent every gun death,” said Allison Anderman, a staff attorney with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in San Francisco. “They work most of the time.”
The gun-control advocacy group rates California's gun laws No. 1 in the nation; the state ranks 42nd in its rate of gun deaths. Louisiana's gun laws were ranked 50th and it is No. 2 in deaths, according to the group's 2014 rankings.
Gun laws vary dramatically state-to-state, even city-to-city. The patchwork of regulations means it's often easy for determined gunmen to acquire weapons by skirting laws in their home state, they say. Untraceable weapons can be built from scratch using parts bought online.
As a result, gun control advocates in the days since the shooting have called for more stringent laws in California and nationwide. At least two state lawmakers say they will propose measures to close what they consider loopholes in the state's gun laws.

Mid-twenties, successful, smart and single — this growing demographic has become the nation’s ‘leftover women.’
The derogatory label ‘sheng nu’ has been on the rise for almost a decade. State-run media started using the term in the same year the government warned that China’s gender imbalance — caused by selective abortions because of the one-child policy — was a serious problem.
The general consensus in China is that a woman should be married in her early 20s. Women who find themselves still single over 27, are usually placed under immense pressure from parents, and even grandparents, to lower their standards and tie the knot.
“To many parents it is a hugely important task. It’s a burden on their mind. If their kids can’t find someone, they will be very worried,” Mr Yan, a marriage matchmaker said in Vice documentary, Unmarried at 27.
“Some parents can’t even sleep at night. They would call me and tell me ‘Mr Yan, I have been sitting in my bed all night [worried].”
