To fight fire with fire, it seems that the Republicans might have to take off their gloves and get a little dirty.
On Monday, Oklahoma Republican Senator Tom Coburn spoke at a fundraiser in New York City where he answered questions from citizens. Though the discussion was largely cordial, Sen. Coburn was asked about civility in government and Sen. Coburn responded that it was easier to be civil with some Democrats more than others.
Specifically, he called out Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid by name, calling him an “A**hole.”
Sen. Reid has responded by chastising the Oklahoma lawmaker for his uncivil tone and “name-calling.”
This criticism from Sen. Reid comes after weeks and weeks of Reid calling Republicans, conservatives and Tea Partiers every name in the book.
On Monday, Coburn discussed discourse and said,
“I have great relationships with Chuck Schumer. I don’t say that in Oklahoma,” he said, naming other Democrats with whom he can get along. However, Coburn had a choice phrase for Sen. Reid:
“There’s no comity with Harry Reid. I think he’s an absolute a**hole,” he said.
Harry Reid’s administration fired back. “Nothing says ‘comity’ like childish playground name-calling, especially from a senator who has not sponsored a single piece of successful bipartisan legislation during his entire Senate career,” Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson said in a statement Tuesday morning.
