Ultrafast
wi-fi, which is 100 times quicker than today’s mobile networks is on
the horizon, after scientists proved they could send complex data using
high-frequency radiation.
The researchers sent video signals using terahertz, rather than traditional microwaves, at speeds of 50 gigabytes per second. Most wireless networks only operate at top speeds of 500 megabytes a second.
The breakthrough could lead to high-speed streaming on the go.
"We showed that we can transmit separate data streams on
terahertz waves at very high speeds and with very low error rates," said
Daniel Mittleman, a professor in Brown University's School of Engineering, in Providence, US.
"This is the first time anybody has characterized a
terahertz multiplexing system using actual data, and our results show
that our approach could be viable in future terahertz wireless
networks."
Current voice and data networks use microwaves to carry
signals wirelessly, but demand is outstripping capacity so scientists
have been looking at new bandwidths.

"... It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings."....I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"
