Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq have reportedly retaken a strategic mountain town from the Islamic State group.
Kurdish Regional Government President Masoud Barzani wrote on his Twitter account on Friday that the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar had been captured from the militants.
On Thursday, 7,500 Kurdish fighters launched a massive offensive to recapture Sinjar with the help of airstrikes by the US-led coalition.
Sinjar is on the road that links Raqqa in northern Syria with Iraq's second largest city, Mosul. Raqqa is the militant group's proclaimed capital. Mosul is one of its strongholds.
Much of Sinjar has been under the control of Islamic State militants since August of last year.
