IF YOU DIET EXPECT THE FLU THIS WINTER SEASON SO SAYS AN MSU STUDY

Dieters are at a higher risk of catching flu during the season, a study suggests.
A team led by Dr. Elizabeth Gardner at Michigan State University divided mice into two groups, one on a normal diet and one provided with 40 percent reduced calories.

Both were exposed to a strain of influenza. More "dieting" mice died from the flu virus or developed complications than those on a normal diet. In addition, they recovered from the flu more slowly than regularly fed mice.

The research team said if people go on a diet in winter, when the flu virus is active, the body's ability to fight off the flu virus decreases and susceptibility increases.
