An asteroid the size of a whale was today on its final approach to a nail biting encounter with Earth on Sunday evening.
Similar in size to the Chelyabinsk meteorite that exploded over Russia’s Ural Mountains region in February 2013, Nasa says we will have a ‘very close’ shave - but that there is no risk.
At the time of closest approach, asteroid 2014 RC will be one-tenth the distance from the centre of Earth to the moon, or about 25,000 miles (40,000km).
