Londoners fought back with whatever came to hand, including hurling chairs and tables, when three men armed with a van and knives went on the attack in a bustling area of the British capital on Saturday night.
The attack, in which the assailants killed at least seven people and injured almost 50 before they were shot dead by police, began with a van being driven at high speed into a crowd of pedestrians on London Bridge.

"It looked like he was aiming for groups of people," Mark Roberts, a 53-year-old management consultant, told Reuters. He saw at least six people on the ground after the van veered on and off the pavement.
"It was horrendous."
The knife-wielding assailants then took their attack to nearby Borough Market, where survivors described a hellish scene in an area packed with people enjoying a night out in bars and restaurants.
Gerard Vowles told Sky TV that he was on the street near the Southwark Tavern pub, the scene of multiple stabbings, when he heard someone say: "I've been stabbed, I've been stabbed."
"I thought they were joking," he said.
He said he then saw a woman and man being stabbed while the attackers shouted: "This is for Allah", and recalled how he tried to distract the men.
"As they left I was going "Oi, oi, cowards!" Vowles said. "I was just trying to get their attention by throwing things at them ... I thought if I throw bottles or chairs they can come after me. If I can get them to come to the main road then the police can stop them, they can obviously shoot them."

THE Chinese government “systematically dismantled” CIA spying operations in China starting in late 2010, according to The New York Times.

The paper reports that the Chinese government killed at least a dozen CIA sources and imprisoned up to eight others over the next two years. One was shot in front of his colleagues in the courtyard of a government building, according to the report.
The newspaper cites 10 current and former U.S. officials, who describe the intelligence breach as one of the worst in decades. They spoke on condition of anonymity.
The report published Saturday says U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies scrambled to stem the damage, but were bitterly divided over the cause of the breach.
According to the report, debates between U.S. officials were punctuated with “macabre” phone calls — “We lost another one” — and urgent questions from the Obama administration for answers.
Some investigators were convinced there was a mole within the CIA, pointing to a former employee who had remained in Asia after leaving the agency. Others believed the Chinese had hacked the covert system the CIA used to communicate with its foreign sources.
Another theory attributed the losses to “sloppy” American tradecraft at a time when the Chinese were getting better at monitoring espionage activity.
The report says some FBI agents became convinced CIA handlers too often travelled the same routes to the same meeting points. Some officers met their sources at a restaurant bugged with listening devices, where even the waiters worked for Chinese intelligence, according to the Times.
The breach predated the 2015 Chinese hack of the US government’s Office of Personnel Management, in which four million current and former federal employees had their personal information stolen.

The CIA declined to comment.
In March, the CIA suffered its biggest ever data breach when WikiLeaks released a massive trove of secret documents revealing how US spies can remotely hack and control smartphones, computers, TVs and even vehicles.
A second data dump later that month showed how the CIA had been hacking iPhones and Macs for the past 10 years.

North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile Sunday afternoon, which flew more than 500 kilometers, the North's second missile launch in a week, South Korea's military announced.

President Moon Jae-in immediately ordered a National Security Council meeting to discuss the communist neighbor's provocation.

"North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile in the eastern direction at around 4:59 p.m. from the vicinity of Pukchang in Pyeongannam-do (South Pyeongan Province)," the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement.

A JCS official said on background that it traveled at the maximum altitude of around 560 km.

He added it appears similar to Pukguksong-2, a new intermediate-range ballistic missile.
 
The US Pacific Command (PACOM) said the missile landed in the East Sea and characterized it as a "medium range" ballistic missile.

The unsolved case of Democratic National Committee data analyst Seth Rich’s death shares some eerie similarities with many mysterious deaths of individuals linked to former President Bill Clinton and twice failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Just as in the Rich case, several of the people who died mysterious deaths were shot spontaneously and in public places, sometimes from behind, sometimes by unknown assailants and often just before they were set to release incriminating evidence concerning the Clintons’ activities. In most cases, there were no signs of theft at the crime scenes. And while some of the deaths were ruled suicides, other cases remain a mystery.

Rich worked for the Democratic National Committee as a data analyst and reportedly sent more than 44,000 DNC emails to WikiLeaks, including 17,761 attachments, from January 2015 through the end of May 2016. As WND reported, the DNC staffer was reported to have been in contact with WikiLeaks Director Gavin MacFadyen, who died just 17 days before the election of lung cancer. Rich was mysteriously shot and killed July 10, 2016. As WND reported, Rich was murdered near his affluent neighborhood in Washington, D.C. He was shot in the back with a handgun at 4:18 a.m. while he walked home, and nothing was taken from him. Rich, who called several people as he later walked home, was talking on the phone with his girlfriend, Kelsey Murka, when he was accosted a block from his house. He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead at 5:57 a.m.
