Drive past the dairy farms, cornfields and horse pastures here and you will eventually arrive at Cate Machine & Welding, a small-town business run by Gene and Lori Cate and their sons. For 46 years, the Cates have welded many things — fertilizer tanks, jet-fighter parts, cheese molds, even a farmer’s broken glasses.
And like many small businesses, they have a dusty old computer humming away in the back office. On this one, however, an unusual spy-versus-spy battle is playing out: The machine has been taken over by Chinese hackers.
The hackers use it to plan and stage attacks. But unbeknown to them, a Silicon Valley start-up is tracking them here, in real time, watching their every move and, in some cases, blocking their efforts.
“When they first told us, we said, ‘No way,’” Mr. Cate said one afternoon recently over pizza and cheese curds, recalling when he first learned the computer server his family used to manage its welding business had been secretly repurposed. “We were totally freaked out,” Ms. Cate said. “We had no idea we could be used as an infiltration unit for Chinese attacks.”
On a recent Thursday, the hackers’ targets appeared to be a Silicon Valley food delivery start-up, a major Manhattan law firm, one of the world’s biggest airlines, a prominent Southern university and a smattering of targets across Thailand and Malaysia. The New York Times viewed the action on the Cates’ computer on the condition that it not name the targets.
The activity had the hallmarks of Chinese hackers known as the C0d0s0 group, a collection of hackers for hire that the security industry has been tracking for years. Over the years, the group has breached banks, law firms and tech companies, and once hijacked the Forbes website to try to infect visitors’ computers with malware.

"... It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings."....I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"

THE LATEST ON BROWSER USERS ARE IN AS FIREFOX USERS AND CHROME USRS HAVE A GREATER JOB SATISFACTION IN THE WORK FORCE AND WILLING TO STAY ON THE JOB LONGER THAN SAY SAFARI AND INTERNET EXPLORER
IN his best-selling new book,
Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World, Wharton professor Adam
Grant — a recent TED speaker — explores why some people are more
successful than others in championing new ideas. In this brief excerpt
from the first chapter, he shares some surprising discoveries about what
people reveal about themselves when they choose a web browser for their
computer.
Not long ago, economist Michael Housman
was leading a project to figure out why some customer service agents
stayed in their jobs longer than others. Armed with data from more than
30,000 employees who handled calls for banks, airlines, and cell-phone
companies, he suspected that their employment histories would contain
telltale signs about their commitment. He thought that people with a history of job-hopping would quit sooner, but they didn’t: Employees who had held five jobs in the past five years weren’t any more likely to leave their positions than those who had stayed in the same job for five years.
Hunting for other hints, he noticed that his team had captured information about which internet browser employees had used when they logged in to apply for their jobs. On a whim, he tested whether that choice might be related to quitting. He didn’t expect to find any correlation, assuming that browser preference was purely a matter of taste. But when he looked at the results, he was stunned: Employees who used Firefox or Chrome to browse the web remained in their jobs 15 per cent longer than those who used internet Explorer or Safari.
Thinking it was a coincidence, Housman ran the same analysis for absences from work. The pattern was the same: Firefox and Chrome users were 19 per cent less likely to miss work than internet Explorer and Safari fans.
Then he looked at performance. His team had assembled nearly three million data points on sales, customer satisfaction, and average call length. The Firefox and Chrome users had significantly higher sales, and their call times were shorter. Their customers were happier, too: After 90 days on the job, the Firefox and Chrome users had customer satisfaction levels that internet Explorer and Safari users reached only after 120 days at work.

A
senior Chinese admiral strongly defended his country's activities in
the South China Sea Sunday, restating Beijing's sovereignty in the
region and warning it "had no fear of trouble."
Admiral
Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's
Liberation Army, addressed the tensions resulting from overlapping
territorial claims in the South China Sea at the IISS Shangri-La
Dialogue in Singapore, an annual conference on security in the
Asia-Pacific region.
Chinese Admiral Sun Jianguo speaks at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday.
Sun
said that the issue had "become overheated because of provocations of
certain countries for their own selfish interests." He also reiterated
that Beijing would not recognize a pending decision of an international
tribunal in The Hague in a case brought by the Philippines contesting
China's claim to some territory in the region.
"We
do not make trouble, but we have no fear of trouble," he said. "China
will not bear the consequences, nor will it allow any infringement upon
its sovereignty and security interests or stay indifferent to the
irresponsible behavior of some countries in and around the South China
Sea."
THE DEMOCRAT AIDING AND ABETTING THE ENEMY FRONT AND CENTER RUNNER FOR POTUS 2016 HILLARY CLINTON CANNOT SHAKE THE CRAP STUCK TO HER AS MORE OF HER EMAIL INFORMATION AS ROUTED OUTSIDE OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT THROUGH HER PRIVATE EMAIL SERVER TO KEEP HER SECRETS FROM BEING PRIED MY THE STATE COMES TO LIGHT AS INTELLIGENCE OFFICIALS NAMES ARE MENTIONED AMONG NATIONAL SECRETS ROUTED TO HER UNPROTECTED SERVER - THUS THE DEMOCRATS HAVE A POTENTIAL POTUS ALREADY WITH THE CARPET BAG OF CRIMES AND MISDEMEANOR EVEN BEFORE TAKING THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND OF THE USA - BUT THEN THESE ARE DEMOCRATS AND CORRUPTION IS BUT NOTHING TO THEM
Federal records reveal that Clinton swapped these highly classified names on an email account that was vulnerable to attack and was breached repeatedly by Russia-linked hacker attempts. These new revelations — reminiscent of the Valerie Plame scandal during George W. Bush’s tenure — could give FBI investigators the evidence they need to make a case that Clinton violated the Espionage Act by mishandling national defense information through “gross negligence.”
Numerous names cited in Clinton’s emails have been redacted in State Department email releases with the classification code “B3 CIA PERS/ORG,” a highly specialized classification that means the information, if released, would violate the Central Intelligence Act of 1949.
The State Department produced a document to Judicial Watch in April 2014 that identifies different types of “(b)(3)” redactions, including “CIA PERS/ORG,” which it defines as information “Specifically exempted from disclosure by statute … Central Intelligence Act of 1949.”
“That’s what it suggests,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told Breitbart News, referring to the indication that Clinton disclosed the names of CIA-protected intelligence sources, based on the B3 redactions.
