House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz began the impeachment process against IRS Commissioner John Koskinen Tuesday, accusing him of misleading the public and destroying documents that were being sought under a congressional subpoena.

It’s the latest move in the battle over tea party targeting at the tax agency, and comes less than a week after the Justice Department issued a report finding no criminal behavior in the IRS’s decision to subject conservative groups to intrusive scrutiny.

Among the specific charges Mr. Chaffetz and 18 of his fellow Republicans on the committee allege are that Mr. Koskinen misled Congress when he said he’d turned over all of former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner’s emails, and oversaw destruction of evidence when his agency destroyed backup tapes that contained the emails.

….A wave of violent attacks on Israelis which began last month has been driven by erroneous claims by the Palestinian leadership that Israel intends to change prayer arrangements on the Temple Mount known as the status quo.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said repeatedly that Israel has no plans to change the status quo according to which Muslims are allowed to pray at the holy site, while Jewish, Christian and other non-Muslim visitors are allowed to visit, but not pray or carry religious texts.

Netanyahu last week complained that social media has been fueling the violence, as Palestinians are sharing widely images and cartoons that glorify knife-wielding and other assailants.

Russia's defense minister says Moscow plans to build a military base on the Kuril Islands, along with four Arctic bases that should be completed by 2018.
Sergei Shoigu told Russian news agencies Thursday the military is planning to put a large modern base on the islands with equipment necessary for border protection.
Shoigu said Russia has nearly completed several new bases with the largest on Kotelny Island in the Novosibirsk Archipelago.
Shoigu said there will also be military bases placed on Cape Schmidt, which is on the eastern coast of the Chukchi autonomous region, and Wrangel Island, which lies to the northeast of the mainland in the Chukchi Sea, as that base on the Franz Josef Land Archipelago is near completion.
The new Russian bases are just a few hundred kilometers from the westernmost U.S. coastline.
