TURNING YOUR OWN IMMUNE CELL DEFENSE AGAINST CANCER–AS IMMUNOTHERAPHY THE NEW ATTACK APPROACH TO GETTING RID OF CANCER FROM AN EXPERIMENTAL DRUG CALLED NIVOLUMAB–AND YOU NEVER THOUGHT YOU HAD IT IN YOU TO HEAL THY BODY

A new era in the fight against cancer is on the horizon and it got some 30,000 cancer doctors and researchers excited at the latest American Society Of Clinical Oncology meeting held in the United States earlier this month.

Among the attendees was local oncologist Ang Peng Tiam, who said that the buzzword resounding in the colossal halls of the event was "immunotherapy".

To put it simply, this strategy makes use of a patient's own immune cells to attack cancer.

Even before the meeting, there was great expectation that there would be a major breakthrough in this area, said Dr Ang, who is in private practice.

Among the highlights was the presentation of results from a phase-three trial that compared an immunotherapy drug, called nivolumab, with a conventional chemotherapy drug, docetaxel, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, said Dr Elaine Lim, a senior consultant at the department of medical oncology at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCCS).

These patients had failed to respond to standard first-line chemotherapy.

Each trial showed that those who received the immunotherapy drug lived an average of three months longer than those who received chemotherapy, said Dr Lim.

THE WHIRLPOOL SPIRAL OF TIGER WOODS TAKES AN EVEN LARGER SWIRL DOWN THE TOILET AS TIGERS SECRET RUMP WITH 12 WOMEN IN 2009 EFFECTIVELY DESTROYING HIS MARRIAGE WITH ELIN NORDEGREN AND HIS MIND NO LONGER CONCENTRATING ON GOLF AND NOW WAS DATING THE US SKI STAR LINDSEY VONN AND IS NOW IT SEEMS ONCE AGAIN IN ANOTHER AFFAIR WITH A FELLOW GOLFER’S WIFE AMANDA BOYD–A GOLFER’S FLIRTATIOUS GROUPY SO IT SEEMS

The 39-year-old 14-time major champion, in the midst of the worst season of his career, missed the cut at last month’s US Open at Chambers Bay with rounds of 80 and 76 — the worst 36-hole effort of his career.

Now he’s been accused of having an affair with Amanda Boyd, the ex-wife of his fellow golfing professional Jason Dufner.

Woods was again the subject of tabloid reports today as the National Enquirer stated Woods and US ski star Lindsey Vonn split up in May after two years together because she caught Woods cheating on her with Boyd, a 27-year-old who in March divorced Dufner, the 2013 PGA Championship winner.

“Even though Tiger dated Lindsey for years, he had a ‘thing’ for Amanda,” a source told The Enquirer.

“At first, it was just innocent flirting, but earlier this year it became serious.

“Amanda is gorgeous, and she’s known as a big flirt with the other players on the PGA tour,” another source was quoted as saying.

“I guess her flirty ways and good looks caught Tiger’s eye.”

The report said Dufner was “devastated” when he learned of Woods’ alleged affair with his wife.

According to divorce papers filed on March 16, Boyd and Dufner cited an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” as the reason for the split.

ANOTHER STUDY CRANBERRY JUICE CAN LOWER THE RISK AGAINST THAT CAUSES HEART DISEASE AND DIABETES THROUGH POLYPHENOLS

A new study reveals that drinking low-calorie cranberry juice cocktail may help lower the risk of chronic diseases that rank among the leading causes of death worldwide, including heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

The finding is welcome news considering the World Health Organization estimates the trio of diseases annually claim 15.6 million lives around the globe. These illnesses are among the most common and costly health conditions, but fortunately, they are also among the most preventable through dietary intervention.

The research shows that cranberries provide a rich source of protective compounds - called polyphenols – that support the body’s natural defenses and help us achieve a balanced lifestyle to improve health.

Cranberries contain more naturally occurring polyphenols than most other common fruits. New research published in the Journal of Nutrition suggests that drinking two glasses of low-calorie cranberry juice a day could lower risk of any number of chronic illnesses including heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Thirty years have passed since South Korea reported its first case of human immunodeficiency virus infection, which causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome, on June 29, 1985. The number of new cases is on the rise, with more than 1,000 new HIV patients being reported each year. HIV, however, has become a chronic, manageable disease due to rapid advance in treatment, health authorities say.
As of late 2014, more than 8,600 people in Korea were living with HIV, mostly men who contracted the virus through sexual contact. .
