With the growing threat from the Ebola outbreak in Africa, it was expected the epidemic would be front-and-center at this week’s U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington, but now an NBC reporter is giving the meeting of heads of state a birther twist.

During MSNBC’s Tuesday coverage of the event, host Joy Reid introduced NBC White House correspondent Chris Jansing, saying, “The White House clearly, I assume, is hoping that this will be part of president’s legacy given his background.”

“Yeah, the fact that he’s from Kenya,” Jansing agreed. “And that fact that when he was elected there were expectations from the African continent that he would do great things for them. This is a concerted effort by this administration to get American companies to invest.”

Reid noted the president’s father was from Kenya but did not attempt to correct Jansing.

Only after about 10 minutes did Jansing correct her earlier statement, Raw Story reported.

“I misspoke at the top before,” she said. “It is obviously the president’s father who is from Kenya.”

“We, of course, know what you meant,” Reid replied.

MSNBC is not the first media outlet, seen to be in Obama’s corner, that has advanced the notion Obama was born in the African nation.

The threat of an electromagnetic pulse event or attack on the United States that could kill tens of millions of people has prompted George Noory, host of “Coast to Coast AM,” the most-listened-to overnight radio program in North America, to launch a campaign to prepare a defense.

“I implore all individual states, the president and members of Congress to immediately develop a plan to protect our power grid,” said Noory. “The preservation of our great nation and the lives of its people are critical.”

WND has reported extensively on the issue and is a partner in the campaign.

“I want to thank WND and Joseph Farah for joining this effort, which is imperative to our future,” Noory said.

The goal is to protect and insulate the U.S. power grid against an EMP event or attack from a solar flare, nuclear weapon or ballistic missile, all of which could endanger the lives of millions of Americans, according to Noory.

The work follows on the heels of a recent report from NASA scientists that Earth narrowly avoided a catastrophic X-class solar flare on July 23, 2012.

According to WND senior staff writer F. Michael Maloof, whose book, “A Nation Forsaken,” addresses the EMP threat, the United States could be turned into a virtual 19th-century agrarian society.

The problem is that an EMP would take out virtually all electronics. The controls that enable gas to be pumped into a vehicle, systems that control underground pipelines, the computers controlling financial systems, the electronics in vehicles, communications, emergency services, law enforcement and much more could all be rendered useless.

Maloof wrote recently:”Under such chaotic conditions, there is no doubt that gangs may begin roaming neighborhoods and more rural locations, and individuals need to be able to protect their families and possessions. It will mean having a firearm as part of families’ survival items.

Republicans believe that the deepening crisis in Gaza could ultimately loosen the grip that the Democratic Party has traditionally held upon American Jewish voters.

While declarations of a rift between Democrats and the Jewish community have proven premature in the past, things could be different this time, they assert.

Just in the last week, the Obama administration used unusually strong language to condemn the shelling of a United Nations-run school in Gaza, apparently by the Israeli military, and drafted a document for a cease-fire that Israeli officials denounced as favoring Hamas.

Conservatives say the overall stance of the administration has created an atmosphere of skepticism in the Democratic base toward Israel.

They point to a succession of recent polls to make their case. A Gallup survey last month found that only 31 percent of Democrats believed Israel’s actions against Hamas were justified, whereas 65 percent of Republicans held that view. 

A Pew poll during the same period asked people which side was most to blame for the violence. Democrats split almost evenly on that question, with 29 percent blaming Hamas and 26 percent blaming Israel. By contrast, more than four times as many Republicans held Hamas culpable (60 percent) as pinned the blame on Israel (13 percent.)
