A FIN REPORTER DON’T USE ME TO SHOW HAMAS ROCKETS FIRED NEAR HOSPITALS EVEN THOUGH I SAW IT AS A NEWS REPORTER AND I BROADCAST IT ON THE AIR

A correspondent covering the Gaza conflict for a Finnish media outlet reported seeing a rocket being launched from Gaza City’s main hospital, Shifa, but later lashed out at the pro-Israel media for its “disgusting” use of her report as a “propaganda weapon.”

The report filed by Aishi Zidan of Finland’s Helsingin Sanomat noted that the rocket was fired from the backyard of the hospital. Israel has widely derided Hamas for what it calls a human shields policy, hiding its military assets and firing from behind civilian sites including mosques, schools and hospitals. Here is the video of Zidan’s report which was first discovered by the blog Tundra Tabloids

100 YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE THE START OF WW1 IN THE BELGIUM TOWN OF LIEGE BACK IN 1914

Driving along the quiet, secluded roads of southern Belgium, the towns of Liège, Dinant and Namur chequer the landscape, stopping points on the roads leading towards France, Luxembourg and Germany.

On Monday, heads of state from around the world, including President Michael D Higgins, the king of Belgium and the president of Germany, will gather in Liège to mark the outbreak of the first World War. Although the atmosphere is expected to be one of sombre commemoration and reconciliation, for many living in the area the question of how to commemorate a war whose scars still run deep is more complex.

As Paul Breyne, the director of the Belgian government’s commemorative programme, explains, finding a common vision of the war is not always easy. “There’s a phrase in French, la couche mémoriale. It means there is a history and then there is the memory of the history.”

The four-year conflict, which began 100 years ago on Monday, left a continent shattered and contained the seeds of another war, two decades later. Much of the fighting of the first World War took place in Belgium, and it was a key setting in the opening weeks.

A century on, the dominant image of the conflict is of trench warfare. By late 1914 the Western Front, running from the North Sea to Switzerland, had begun to take shape, and the conflict quickly slipped into stalemate and defence.

JAPAN HIDES ITS WW2 CONFISCATION OF KOREA’S TREASURES FROM 1910 TO 1945 OCCUPATION

The Japanese government went on a fierce legal offensive to keep hidden a list of treasures stolen from Korea during the occupation from 1910 to 1945, in the reasonable expectation that Korea will want them back.
The existence of the list emerged in a deposition from the Japanese government during a trial at the Tokyo High Court over a civic group's demands for access to official documents involving 1965 talks that normalized diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.
Keiichi Ono, the director of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Northeast Asia Division, said in the deposition that those documents "include a list of national treasures that have not been presented to the Korean government until now" and warned that Seoul may seek their return.
Ono added that the records contain information about how the treasures were stolen from Korea that Seoul would find "difficult to understand."

In 2008, Japan published 1,916 documents related to the 1965 talks but kept the remaining 22 secret. Eight of them, it has now emerged, relate to looted Korean national treasures.
